The TP-Link Deco BE65-5G(1-pack) is a 5G mobile broadband router with built-in BE9300 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh: insert a nano SIM and it connects over Sub-6 GHz 5G at download speeds TP-Link quotes up to 3.4 Gbps, falling back to 4G and 3G. Wi-Fi is rated 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, and there are three 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN ports, a USB port and two external SMA-F antenna ports.

Deco BE65-5G (1-pack) overview

The Deco BE65-5G combines two products in one: a 5G cellular router and a Deco Wi-Fi 7 mesh unit. Instead of relying on a fixed-line service, it takes a nano SIM card and connects to the mobile network, with TP-Link quoting Sub-6 GHz 5G download speeds of up to 3.4 Gbps, and 4G LTE-Advanced at 300 Mbps and 4G LTE at 150 Mbps on its comparison graphic. TP-Link's footnote stresses that actual 5G downlink speed varies between households with the service level, real-time network capacity, equipment and environment. TP-Link pitches it at places where wired broadband is slow or expensive to install, or where long contracts do not suit: holiday homes, farms, suburban warehouses, short-term rentals, pop-up venues and temporary shops. The 1-pack box contains one Deco BE65-5G router, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, one power adapter and a quick installation guide.

Cellular band support listed by TP-Link covers 5G NR n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n20, n28, n38, n40, n41, n75, n76, n77 and n78; 4G bands B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20, B28, B32, B38, B40, B41, B42 and B43; and 3G bands B1, B5 and B8. For weak-signal locations there are two 5G/4G/3G external SMA-F antenna ports on the unit, so an external antenna can be fitted. The wired side has three 2.5 Gbps ports with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, which TP-Link describes as up to 2.5 times the wired speed of a typical gigabit port, so the BE65-5G can also take a fixed-line connection on one port; TP-Link notes only one port works as the WAN at a time and 2.5 Gbps internet speeds need a compatible plan and equipment. There is also a USB port. The unit is a 128 x 128 x 236 mm tower, larger than the regular Deco BE65, and operates from 0 to 40 degrees C.

On the Wi-Fi side the BE65-5G is rated BE9300, a different speed class from the BE11000 Deco BE65: 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz and 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz with 802.11be, and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with 802.11ax. TP-Link's headline for the combined bands is up to 9214 Mbps. The radios support 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA and six streams, and the Wi-Fi 7 features are Multi-Link Operation, 320 MHz channels, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs; TP-Link explains that 4K-QAM brings 20% higher theoretical transmission rates than 1024-QAM and that the 6 GHz band is exclusive to 6 GHz devices, away from legacy-device interference. 320 MHz is only available on 6 GHz and every feature needs compatible clients. TP-Link quotes connection of over 200 devices based on laboratory testing.

As a Deco, the BE65-5G forms a mesh with a single network name and AI-Roaming, and TP-Link says it is compatible with every other Deco model, so you can add standard Decos to spread the 5G connection through a larger house or property. TP-Link also says each unit can run wireless and wired backhaul simultaneously, with MLO raising the combined backhaul aggregation rate. HomeShield provides an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, intrusion prevention, DDoS attack prevention, a home network scanner and parental controls such as app blocking, web filtering, YouTube restrictions, SafeSearch and time limits; TP-Link lists a free basic tier and four fee-based services. The page also describes VPN client and server support for OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec, and an IoT network with WPA3 where clients support it. Guest networks run on all three bands, and IPTV, QoS by device, port forwarding, UPnP, IPv6, TP-Link DDNS, OTA updates and Alexa or Google Assistant voice control are also listed. Router and Access Point modes are supported, and everything is managed in the Deco app.
