The TP-Link Deco BE65(3-pack) contains three Deco BE65 units for a three-node BE11000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh, with three power adapters and one Ethernet cable in the box. Every node lists 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, Multi-Link Operation and 320 MHz channels, and carries four 2.5 Gbps auto-sensing ports plus USB 3.0, so the kit gives you twelve multi-gig ports spread across the home.

Deco BE65 (3-pack) overview

Three nodes is the biggest Deco BE65 kit TP-Link sells, and the one to look at when a home is long, split-level or spread over several floors, or when you want a Deco close to the rooms where most devices live. The box contains three Deco BE65 units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, three power adapters and a quick installation guide. One unit connects to your modem or NBN connection box as the main router; the other two are placed between it and the far parts of the house, and TP-Link says the Deco app gets the system running in three steps. TP-Link's AU page does not publish a square-metre coverage figure for the BE65 by pack size, and it notes that coverage and throughput vary with building materials, obstacles, traffic and client position, so the number of nodes you need depends on your floor plan rather than a fixed area.

Each of the three units is a BE11000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router. TP-Link lists 5765 Mbps on the 6 GHz band, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz using 802.11be, with 802.11ax/ac/n/a backward compatibility on 5 GHz and ax/n/b/g on 2.4 GHz. Multi-Link Operation lets compatible clients use several bands at once, 320 MHz channels are available on 6 GHz, and 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs improve efficiency. TP-Link's note that 240 MHz width may be unavailable on 5 GHz in Australia due to regulation applies to every unit. Per node there are four internal high-performance antennas, 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA and six streams, and TP-Link quotes over 200 devices for the system based on its lab test of a typical home load of 4K, 1080p and 720p video, downloads, browsing, IP cameras and IoT devices.

In a three-node mesh, the hop from the main Deco to the furthest satellite is where speed is usually lost, which is why backhaul flexibility matters here. TP-Link says the BE65 can carry a wireless and a wired backhaul to each unit simultaneously, with Wi-Fi 7 MLO increasing the combined aggregation rate, and the mesh adds adaptive path selection to choose the best route and band, plus self-healing that reroutes traffic through the other Decos if one has a problem. Wiring is easy to mix: every unit has four 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports, twelve across the kit, so you can cable one satellite and leave the other wireless. Each unit also has a USB 3.0 port for FTP, media and Samba servers, a reset button and a WPS button, and measures 107.5 x 107.5 x 176 mm.

All three units sit in one Deco app dashboard, where you can view connected devices, pause or prioritise them, test internet speed and manage the network remotely. HomeShield security covers an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, malicious site blocking, intrusion prevention, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, and HomeShield parental controls offer profiles, content filtering, YouTube restriction, SafeSearch, bedtime and off time, time rewards and weekly or monthly reports; the Basic Plan is free and the Pro Plan is paid. Guest networks are available on 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, an IoT network keeps smart devices isolated with WPA3 where clients support it, and the BE65 runs OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec servers and clients. Other listed features include QoS by device, IPTV, static routing, node and band connection preference, port forwarding, UPnP, TP-Link DDNS, IPv6, OTA firmware updates and Alexa or Google Assistant voice control. TP-Link's AU page lists BE65 hardware versions V1, V2 and V3.

Key features

Three-node Wi-Fi 7 mesh

Three Deco BE65 units and three power adapters form one network with a single name for larger homes.

Twelve 2.5 Gbps ports

Four 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports on each of the three units, plus a USB 3.0 port on every Deco.

BE11000 tri-band per node

5765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (802.11be).

Mixed backhaul

Each unit can use wired and wireless backhaul together, so one satellite can be cabled and another wireless.

Adaptive path selection and self-healing

The mesh picks the best route and band, and reroutes through the other Decos if one has an issue.

MLO, 320 MHz and 4K-QAM

Wi-Fi 7 Multi-Link Operation, 320 MHz channels on 6 GHz, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs for supporting clients.

HomeShield security and parental controls

Firewall, IoT protection, intrusion and DDoS prevention, plus profile-based parental controls.

VPN server and client

OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec in both roles, alongside the ordinary internet connection.
