The TP-Link Deco BE65(2-pack) is a two-node BE11000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh kit: two Deco BE65 units, one Ethernet cable and two power adapters. Each unit lists 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with MLO and 320 MHz channels, and has four 2.5 Gbps auto-sensing ports and a USB 3.0 port. TP-Link's own speed heatmap was shot with two BE65s in a two-floor, five-bedroom home.

Deco BE65 (2-pack) overview

A pair of Deco BE65 units is the configuration TP-Link itself used to demonstrate the system. Its published speed heatmap places one Deco BE65 on each floor of a 4,600 sq ft, two-storey villa with five bedrooms and drywall interiors, tested with 2x2 MLO-compatible clients. With the two units joined by 2.5 Gbps wired backhaul, TP-Link reports most of the home sat on 2.5 Gbps-class connections and the edges of the house stayed around 2 Gbps. With wireless backhaul only, the first-floor Deco performed the same, while the walls and ceiling between floors meant the centre of the second Deco's area still received at least 1.5 Gbps. TP-Link notes home results vary with your plan, access type and environment, and that coverage is not guaranteed. The 2-pack box contains two Deco BE65 units, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, two power adapters and a quick installation guide.

Both units are identical BE11000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 routers. The headline of up to 11 Gbps is the sum of 5765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, all 802.11be maximum signal rates. Inside each unit, four internal high-performance antennas, 2x2 MU-MIMO, OFDMA and six streams handle the client load, and TP-Link quotes over 200 connected devices from laboratory testing. The listed Wi-Fi 7 features are Multi-Link Operation, 320 MHz channels, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs. TP-Link's notes add that 320 MHz is only available on 6 GHz, that 240 MHz width may be unavailable on 5 GHz in Australia due to regulatory restrictions, and that clients must support each feature to benefit.

For a two-node kit, the link between the main Deco and the satellite decides how fast the far end of the home feels. TP-Link's own technology lets each BE65 hold a wireless and a wired backhaul at the same time, and MLO raises the combined backhaul aggregation rate. Each unit has four 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports, which TP-Link describes as up to 2.5 times the wired speed of a typical gigabit port, so one Ethernet run between floors can form the backhaul while the remaining ports serve a PC, console or TV at each end. A USB 3.0 port on each unit supports FTP, media and Samba server functions. Units measure 107.5 x 107.5 x 176 mm and are rated for 0 to 40 degrees C operation.

Management happens in the Deco app, which shows both units and every connected device, and lets you prioritise devices, run guest networks on all three bands with time and bandwidth control, and manage the network away from home. HomeShield adds an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, intrusion prevention, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, along with profile-based parental controls; TP-Link says the Basic Plan is free and the Pro Plan has fees. The BE65 runs OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec as both VPN server and client, alongside the normal internet connection, and supports an IoT network with device isolation, QoS by device, IPTV with IGMP proxy, snooping, bridge and tag VLAN, port forwarding, UPnP, IPv6 and TP-Link DDNS. It works with Alexa and Google Assistant, runs in Router or Access Point Mode, and joins any other Deco model if you want to add a third node later. TP-Link's AU page lists hardware versions V1, V2 and V3 of the Deco BE65.

Key features

Two-node Wi-Fi 7 mesh

Two Deco BE65 units, two power adapters and one Ethernet cable form a single network with one Wi-Fi name.

Tested across two floors

TP-Link's heatmap used two BE65s in a 4,600 sq ft, two-storey, five-bedroom home with 2x2 MLO clients.

BE11000 tri-band per unit

5765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 2x2 MU-MIMO and six streams.

Four 2.5 Gbps ports each

Eight 2.5 Gbps auto-sensing ports across the kit, four on each Deco, plus USB 3.0 on both.

Wired and wireless backhaul at once

Each unit can hold both backhaul types together, with MLO increasing the combined aggregation rate.

MLO, 320 MHz and 4K-QAM

Multi-Link Operation, 320 MHz channels on 6 GHz, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs for compatible clients.

HomeShield protection

SPI firewall, IoT protection, malicious site blocker, intrusion prevention, DDoS prevention and network scanner.

VPN server and client

OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec as both server and client, running alongside normal browsing.

Expandable

TP-Link says the BE65 works with every other Deco model, so a third unit can be added later.
