The TP-Link Archer TX20U is an AX1800 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 wireless USB adapter for Windows 10 and 11. TP-Link says it breaks the gigabit barrier with up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz plus 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, and it pairs two dual-band antennas and beamforming with MU-MIMO, OFDMA, WPA3, a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface and a pre-loaded driver.

Archer TX20U overview

The Archer TX20U is TP-Link's AX1800 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 wireless USB adapter, and TP-Link pitches it as a way to break the gigabit barrier on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, with speeds of up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz plus 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It supports IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax. The dynamic signal rates in its specification are up to 1201 Mbps (11ax), 867 Mbps (11ac), 300 Mbps (11n) and 54 Mbps (11a) on 5 GHz, and up to 574 Mbps (11ax), 400 Mbps (11n), 54 Mbps (11g) and 11 Mbps (11b) on 2.4 GHz. TP-Link notes that these are physical rates, and that real throughput and coverage depend on the router, building materials and traffic.

For coverage the TX20U uses two dual-band antennas, and TP-Link says its high-performance antennas combine with beamforming to concentrate Wi-Fi signals towards your router for better reception and reliable connections from far away. Transmission power is 19 dBm (FCC) or 21.5 dBm (CE) EIRP on 5 GHz and 19 dBm (FCC) or 18.5 dBm (CE) on 2.4 GHz, and reception sensitivity reaches -90 dBm for 11ax HE80 MCS0 on 5 GHz and -94 dBm for 11ax HE40 MCS0 on 2.4 GHz. MU-MIMO and OFDMA aim for lower-latency gameplay: with a compatible router, your PC receives data at the same time as other devices on the same stream.

The USB 3.0 interface matters at these speeds. TP-Link quotes up to 4.8 Gbps for SuperSpeed USB 3.0, up to ten times faster than USB 2.0, and says it stays backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports, making the adapter suited to HD streaming, online gaming and large file downloads. The body uses what TP-Link calls advanced moulding technology for a premium matte finish, with an ergonomic shape and cooling holes, and measures 90.2 x 29.2 x 12.9 mm. A status LED shows its state.

Setup is simple: TP-Link says the TX20U comes with its driver pre-loaded, so you just plug it in and install. Supported operating systems are Windows 10 and Windows 11. Security covers WEP, WPA/WPA2/WPA3 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, with WPA3 protecting your PC from brute-force attacks when the router supports it. It runs in infrastructure mode, carries FCC and CE certification and is rated for 0 °C to 40 °C operation. In the box are the AX1800 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 wireless USB adapter and a quick installation guide.
