The TP-Link Archer TX20E is an AX1800 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 PCIe adapter with Bluetooth 5.2 for Windows 11 and 10 (64-bit) desktops. TP-Link says it breaks the gigabit barrier with up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz plus 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, using a Realtek Wi-Fi 6 chipset, two external high-gain dual-band antennas and WPA3 security.

Archer TX20E overview

The Archer TX20E is TP-Link's AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Bluetooth 5.2 PCIe adapter, and TP-Link's headline is that it breaks the gigabit barrier with speeds of up to 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz plus 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It is built on a Realtek Wi-Fi 6 chipset and supports IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a on 5 GHz and 802.11ax/n/g/b on 2.4 GHz. The dynamic signal rates in its specification are up to 1201 Mbps (11ax), 867 Mbps (11ac), 300 Mbps (11n) and 54 Mbps (11a) on 5 GHz, and up to 574 Mbps (11ax), 300 Mbps (11n), 54 Mbps (11g) and 11 Mbps (11b) on 2.4 GHz. TP-Link stresses full backward compatibility with 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n, so it also connects to older routers at their own standard.

Modulation covers DBPSK, DQPSK, CCK, OFDM, 16-QAM, 64-QAM, 256-QAM and 1024-QAM, and TP-Link notes that Wi-Fi 6 features including OFDMA, MU-MIMO and 1024-QAM need the router or access point to support them too. For range, two external high-gain dual-band antennas let you connect to Wi-Fi in more parts of your home, with greater coverage and enhanced stability. Transmit power is 27 dBm (FCC) or 23 dBm (CE) EIRP on 5 GHz and 25 dBm (FCC) or 20 dBm (CE) on 2.4 GHz. The full reception sensitivity table lists, for example, -57.0 dBm for 11ax HE80 and -94.5 dBm for 11a at 6 Mbps on 5 GHz, and -88.0 dBm for 11b at 11 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The card runs in infrastructure mode.

Bluetooth 5.2 is integrated, and TP-Link says the Bluetooth Core Specification 5.0 and 5.2 releases bring twice the speed and four times the coverage of Bluetooth 4.2. As with other TP-Link PCIe Bluetooth cards, the Bluetooth radio connects to the motherboard through the supplied Bluetooth header cable. Wireless security covers 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and 802.1x, with WPA3 providing enhanced protection for personal password safety when the router also supports it. TP-Link adds that some functionality may be restricted on certain computing systems and platforms, and recommends updating the driver for compatibility.

The TX20E is supported on Windows 11 and Windows 10 (64-bit) only. It measures 120.8 x 78.5 x 20.9 mm, carries CE and FCC certification, and is rated for operation from 0 °C to 40 °C and storage from -40 °C to 70 °C. In the box are the Archer TX20E, two high-gain dual-band antennas, a low-profile bracket for small cases, a Bluetooth header cable, a quick installation guide and a resource CD with the driver.
