The TP-Link Archer T4E is an AC1200 wireless dual-band PCI Express adapter for desktop PCs, with up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Two detachable dual-band antennas and beamforming boost range, a heat sink improves stability, and both a standard and a low-profile bracket are supplied. TP-Link's specification table lists Windows 11/10.

Archer T4E overview

The Archer T4E is TP-Link's AC1200 wireless dual-band PCI Express adapter, an internal Wi-Fi card for desktop computers that plugs into a PCIe slot rather than a USB port. It supports IEEE 802.11ac/n/a on 5 GHz and IEEE 802.11n/g/b on 2.4 GHz, and TP-Link says 802.11ac offers three times the transfer rate of 802.11n. Listed dynamic signal rates are up to 867 Mbps (11ac), 300 Mbps (11n) and 54 Mbps (11a) on 5 GHz, and up to 300 Mbps (11n), 54 Mbps (11g) and 11 Mbps (11b) on 2.4 GHz. TP-Link's suggestion is to use the 2.4 GHz network for email and browsing while keeping the faster 5 GHz band free for gaming, HD streaming and other bandwidth-intensive applications.

Two dual-band detachable external antennas attach to the card's bracket, and TP-Link says they use the latest wireless technology to achieve stable connections and boosted coverage. Beamforming smartly focuses Wi-Fi signals towards connected devices for stable connections and extended range. Transmission power is listed at 24 dBm (FCC) and 23 dBm (CE) EIRP on 5 GHz, and 25 dBm (FCC) and 20 dBm (CE) EIRP on 2.4 GHz. Published reception sensitivity runs from -92 dBm at 11a 6 Mbps to -59.5 dBm at 11ac HT80 on 5 GHz, and from -86.5 dBm at 11b 11 Mbps to -67.5 dBm at 11n HT40 on 2.4 GHz.

A heat sink covers the card to dissipate the thermal energy it generates, which TP-Link says improves stability, and lower temperatures help extend the product's lifespan. The card measures 120.8 x 115.2 x 21.5 mm. In addition to the standard bracket, a low-profile bracket is supplied so the Archer T4E also fits mini tower and slim computer cases.

Security covers 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and 802.1x, modulation runs from DBPSK and CCK up to 256-QAM, and the wireless mode is infrastructure. Software installs from the intuitive utility on the provided CD. TP-Link's specification table lists Windows 11 and Windows 10, while the product overview lists Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7/XP (32/64-bit). The card is rated for operation from 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 to 70 degrees C at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity, with CE and FCC certification. In the box are the Archer T4E adapter, a low-profile bracket, a quick installation guide and a resource CD.

TP-Link lists a low-profile bracket in the box, along with a quick installation guide and resource CD, so the Archer T4E can also be fitted to slim small-form-factor desktop cases. Its listed system requirement is Windows 11 or Windows 10.
