The TP-Link Archer T3U Plus is an AC1300 high gain wireless dual-band USB adapter for computers that need more range. It delivers up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz over USB 3.0, with a rotating, adjustable high-gain antenna, MU-MIMO with compatible routers, a status LED and support for Windows 10/8.1/8/7 (32/64-bit).

Archer T3U Plus overview

The Archer T3U Plus is TP-Link's AC1300 high gain wireless dual-band USB adapter, summed up by TP-Link as powerful high-gain Wi-Fi wherever you are. It receives Wi-Fi on two separate bands, IEEE 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz and IEEE 802.11a/n/ac on 5 GHz. TP-Link suggests the 2.4 GHz band, at up to 400 Mbps, for surfing, email and social media, and the 5 GHz band, at up to 867 Mbps, for gaming, HD streaming and large file downloads. Full listed dynamic rates are 867, 300 and 54 Mbps for 11ac, 11n and 11a on 5 GHz, and 400, 54 and 11 Mbps for 11n, 11g and 11b on 2.4 GHz.

Range is what separates it from the compact Archer T3U. TP-Link describes two high-gain antennas built into one antenna housing, which it says boost signal reception and data transmission significantly compared with a traditional single-antenna Wi-Fi adapter, giving greater coverage and a more stable connection without drops or lag, even from farther away or across multiple walls. The antenna rotates and adjusts in multiple directions to suit different environments. Transmission power is listed at 20 dBm EIRP on 5 GHz and 18 dBm EIRP on 2.4 GHz, under both FCC and CE. With the antenna, the adapter measures 57.8 x 18 x 173.4 mm, and a status LED shows its state.

Like the T3U it connects over USB 3.0 and supports MU-MIMO, which provides two simultaneous data streams to improve the throughput and efficiency of the entire network when working with a compatible MU-MIMO router. Published reception sensitivity runs from -77 dBm at 11a 54 Mbps to -62 dBm at 11ac VHT80 on 5 GHz, and from -87 dBm at 11b 11 Mbps to -70 dBm at 11n HT40 on 2.4 GHz. The wireless mode listed is infrastructure mode.

Security covers WEP, WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, and setup is through a friendly user interface from the resource CD. The specification table lists Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7 in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. It is rated for operation from 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 to 70 degrees C at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Certifications are FCC and CE. In the box are the AC1300 high gain wireless dual-band USB adapter, a quick installation guide and a resource CD.
