The TP-Link Archer T2U Nano is an AC600 nano wireless USB adapter that adds dual-band Wi-Fi to a computer: up to 433 Mbps on 5 GHz (802.11ac) and up to 200 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, where 256-QAM lifts the rate from 150 Mbps. It measures 15 x 7.1 x 18.6 mm, connects over USB 2.0 and is listed for Windows 7/8/8.1/10/XP and Mac OS X 10.9 to 10.13. It is Wi-Fi only, with no Bluetooth.

Archer T2U Nano overview

The Archer T2U Nano is TP-Link's AC600 nano wireless USB adapter, a plug-in-and-forget way to give a laptop or desktop dual-band Wi-Fi. It receives Wi-Fi on two separate bands and supports IEEE 802.11ac, 802.11a, 802.11n, 802.11g and 802.11b. On 5 GHz TP-Link lists signal rates of up to 433 Mbps with 11ac, 150 Mbps with 11n and 54 Mbps with 11a, which it calls ideal for HD video streaming and lag-free online gaming. On 2.4 GHz the rates are up to 200 Mbps with 11n, 54 Mbps with 11g and 11 Mbps with 11b; TP-Link explains that 256-QAM support raises the 2.4 GHz rate from 150 Mbps to 200 Mbps, about 33% faster, which suits everyday browsing and older routers. All rates are dynamic.

Its size is the point. At 15 x 7.1 x 18.6 mm, TP-Link says you can insert the nano adapter into any USB port and leave it there, at home or while travelling, and it pitches the adapter as a good choice for mobile surfing on public Wi-Fi services. The antenna is omni directional and built in, so nothing sticks out of the laptop. The interface is USB 2.0 and setup is through a friendly user interface on the resource CD.

Within the Archer T2U range, the Nano is the smallest Wi-Fi-only option. The Archer T2UB Nano has the same AC600 rates but adds Bluetooth 4.2 in a slightly larger 15.7 x 7.4 x 19.2 mm body, while the Archer T2U Plus keeps the same AC600 rates but trades the nano form for a 5 dBi high-gain adjustable external antenna to extend range. Choose the T2U Nano when you only need Wi-Fi and want the adapter to stay out of the way.

TP-Link's specifications list 64/128-bit WEP, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and 802.1x security, and the overview describes WPA/WPA2 encryption standards keeping your connection safe from intruders. Wireless modes are ad-hoc and infrastructure, and modulation covers DBPSK, DQPSK, CCK, OFDM, 16-QAM, 64-QAM and 256-QAM. Published reception sensitivity on 5 GHz runs from -90 dBm at 11a 6 Mbps to -56 dBm at 11ac VHT80 MCS9, and on 2.4 GHz from -96 dBm at 11b 1 Mbps to -66 dBm at 11n HT40 MCS7. Supported operating systems are listed as Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and XP and Mac OS X 10.9 to 10.13. It is rated for operation from 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 to 70 degrees C at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Certifications are CE and FCC. The box contains the Archer T2U Nano adapter, a resource CD and a quick installation guide.
