The TP-Link Archer NX600 is a 5G router with AX3600 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port. A nano SIM card gives 5G download speeds TP-Link quotes at up to 4.67 Gbps, shared at 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1148 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Eight internal 5G/LTE antennas, two external antenna ports, two gigabit LAN ports, 5G/LTE failover and EasyMesh round it out.

Archer NX600 overview

The Archer NX600 is TP-Link's 5G AX3600 wireless dual-band 2.5 Gig router, the faster of TP-Link's two tower-style 5G routers in this range. Like a phone, it needs only a nano SIM card to get online, and TP-Link quotes 5G download speeds of up to 4.67 Gbps. Its target users are those who cannot wait for, or do not want to commit to, a fixed-line service: TP-Link names holiday homes, farms, suburban warehouses, short-term rentals, pop-up venues and temporary shops. The 99 x 99 x 190 mm tower stands upright, and the NX600 carries both CE and RCM certification.

The 5G modem supports bands N1, N3, N5, N7, N8, N20, N28, N38, N40, N41, N77 and N78, spanning 700 MHz to 3700 MHz. On 4G it covers FDD-LTE B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20 and B28 and TDD-LTE B38, B40, B41, B42 and B43, and 3G DC-HSDPA/HSPA+/HSPA/UMTS uses B1, B5 and B8. Eight internal 5G/LTE antennas are built in, and TP-Link highlights two external antenna ports (SMA-F interfaces) for connecting external antennas where mobile reception needs help.

The Wi-Fi side is where the NX600 separates itself from the AX1800 Archer NX200. It is AX3600 dual-band Wi-Fi 6, with IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a at 5 GHz rated at 2402 Mbps and IEEE 802.11ax/n/b/g at 2.4 GHz rated at 1148 Mbps, using two internal Wi-Fi antennas. Wireless security covers 64/128-bit WEP, WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK encryption, with one guest network per band, a wireless schedule, WMM and wireless statistics. Dead zones can be filled by adding another EasyMesh-compatible router or range extender to build a whole-home mesh.

Wired, the NX600 has one 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port and two 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN ports. TP-Link says the 2.5 Gbps port lets it take full advantage of broadband speed: connect a cable, fibre or DSL modem and it runs as a traditional wireless router, with the 5G/LTE connection held in reserve as a backup through WAN failover. WAN types include Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE and dual-access PPTP and L2TP. Software features include QoS by device or application, PPTP, IPSec and OpenVPN, DoS protection, IPv4 SPI and IPv6 firewalls, IP address and domain filtering, IP and MAC binding, ALG, virtual server, port triggering, UPnP, DMZ and dynamic DNS through TP-Link, DynDNS and NO-IP.

The NX600 is set up and managed through the web interface or the Tether app on Android or iOS, which covers parental controls and access control and provides automatic firmware updates; TP-Link Cloud, local and remote management are listed. It has WPS, reset, power on/off and Wi-Fi on/off buttons, and its power adapter takes 100-240 V input with a 12 V DC 2 A output. It is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. The package contains the Archer NX600, a power adapter, an RJ45 Ethernet cable and a quick installation guide.
