The TP-Link Archer BE450 is a BE7200 dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router rated at 5765 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with Multi-Link Operation, 4K-QAM and internal antennas in an upright housing that sits on a desk or hangs on a wall. It has a 10 Gbps WAN/LAN port, a 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port, three 1 Gbps LAN ports and USB 3.0, plus HomeShield, WireGuard VPN and EasyMesh.

Archer BE450 overview

The Archer BE450 is a BE7200 dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router. TP-Link rates it at up to 5765 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, both on 802.11be, for a combined figure TP-Link rounds to 7.2 Gbps. That is double the 5 GHz rate of the BE3600-class Archer BE220 and Archer BE3600 (2882 Mbps), although, as a dual-band router, it has no 6 GHz band. TP-Link describes Wi-Fi 7 as offering accelerated throughput, lower latency, stronger anti-jamming and higher efficiency, and pitches the speed at 8K streaming, video conferencing, online gaming and VR/AR.

Multi-Link Operation (MLO) lets the Archer BE450 transmit data with Wi-Fi 7 clients across multiple bands simultaneously, which TP-Link says increases throughput, reduces latency and improves reliability. 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs round out the Wi-Fi 7 feature set. Capacity is rated as high, with dual-band device allocation, MU-MIMO, OFDMA, Airtime Fairness, DFS and four streams. Unlike the antenna-studded Archer models, the BE450 uses internal antennas in a white upright housing, with beamforming focusing signal towards clients for coverage that TP-Link sizes at three-bedroom houses. TP-Link offers two installation options to save space: stand it on a desk or hang it on a wall.

Wired connectivity is where the Archer BE450 stands out. There is one 10 Gbps port and one 2.5 Gbps port, each usable as WAN or LAN, which TP-Link says maximise gigabit-plus speeds from your internet provider and break through the 1G bottleneck. Three 1 Gbps LAN ports cover the rest of your wired devices. A USB 3.0 port accepts NTFS, exFAT, HFS+ or FAT32 drives for FTP, media server and Samba file sharing. WAN types include Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP, and the router works in Router Mode or Access Point Mode, with IPTV (IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge, tag VLAN), QoS by device and IPv4/IPv6 support.

For security, TP-Link lets you set up a private IoT network and overlay HomeShield and WPA3 encryption on it. HomeShield on this model lists real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, and the router also has an SPI firewall, access control, IP and MAC binding and an application layer gateway. Encryption options are WPA, WPA2, WPA3 and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise (802.1x). OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP and WireGuard run as VPN servers and clients, with VPN and ordinary internet traffic running simultaneously. HomeShield parental controls include custom profiles, a content filter library, Family Time, Bedtime, Off Time, Time Rewards and reports.

The Archer BE450 is EasyMesh-compatible, so you can add another EasyMesh router or range extender to form a whole-home multi-gigabit mesh, and it works with Alexa and Google Assistant. Setup takes three steps in the Tether app, which TP-Link says gets the whole home covered in minutes; the web page is also available. Cloud features include automatic firmware upgrades, TP-Link ID and DDNS (TP-Link, NO-IP, DynDNS). Controls are an on/off button, a Wi-Fi/LED button, a WPS button and a reset button, and it runs from a 12 V 2.5 A supply. It is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, with CE and FCC certification.
