The TP-Link Tapo S110E is a compact smart switch module (44.7 x 33.9 x 16.1 mm) that makes existing devices smart. Its dry contact mode suits garage doors, boilers, irrigation and access control systems, and its wet contact mode controls lights, outlets and electric floor heating. It connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, supports Matter with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings, tracks energy use and generation, and is rated up to 10 A resistive at 100-250 V.

Tapo S110E overview

The Tapo S110E is TP-Link's smart switch module, a dry contact relay module designed to make existing devices smart without replacing them. It supports two modes. In dry contact mode it is suited to garage doors, boilers, irrigation and sprinkler systems and access control systems, and it can simulate a press action to control almost any small appliance that has a button input. In wet contact mode it controls smart lights, outlets and electric floor heating with your existing equipment. TP-Link's examples include upgrading a light switch for remote or voice control with schedules and scenes, turning an outlet into a smart one for small to medium appliances within its 10 A limit, scheduling floor heating to warm the house before you wake, setting up irrigation that runs on sunny days and pauses when it rains, and making a garage door smart with voice control, remote control and automation, plus an optional unique PIN code for added security. It is designed for indoor installation only.

Electrical ratings are listed as 100-250 V AC at 50/60 Hz with 10 A resistive, 1.5 A motor and 150 W LED loads, and for low-voltage DC circuits 5-30 V at 10 A, 30-48 V at 1.5 A and 48-60 V at 1 A, with TP-Link noting that the 5-24 V 10 A rating applies only in dry contact mode. Safety features include zero-crossing protection, which TP-Link says addresses relay contact welding; relay failure protection, which identifies a failed relay and sends an alarm through the Tapo app; overload protection, which switches the current off when it exceeds the set threshold; overheating protection, which switches off when the temperature is too high; and power protection, which shuts the connected device off when power exceeds the set threshold. The module is wired into mains or low-voltage circuits, so it must be installed by a licensed electrician, and TP-Link publishes wiring guides for dry contact pulse, dry contact on/off and wet contact modes.

Control happens in several ways. The Tapo app turns connected devices on or off from anywhere, runs schedules and timers, and builds scenes that control several devices at once. Voice control works through Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings. The S110E is Matter-certified and compatible with Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT, so it connects traditional devices to third-party systems. Tapo Smart Actions pair it with other Tapo devices, for example opening the garage door and switching lights on when you arrive home, or turning on a lamp when a Tapo motion sensor detects movement. Bluetooth gives instant control and configuration through the Tapo app even without Wi-Fi, and if your router fails or its password changes you can reconnect the module through the app without removing it from the wall.

Energy features are built in: the S110E tracks the energy use of connected devices, accepts your electricity rate for bill estimates, and lets you schedule power-hungry devices for off-peak hours. It can also monitor energy generation, which TP-Link pitches at balcony power stations and solar equipment, with charts that estimate generation benefits and when you will recoup the cost. Setup is by Bluetooth onboarding in the Tapo app, or by scanning the included Matter QR code with a Matter-compatible app such as Amazon Alexa, Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings or Google Home. Wireless is IEEE 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz plus Bluetooth. The module measures 44.7 x 33.9 x 16.1 mm and is rated for -20 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. In the box are one Tapo S110E, three jumper wires, wire labels and a quick start guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the Tapo S110E from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
