The TP-Link Tapo P110 is a mini smart Wi-Fi socket with energy monitoring for Australian power points. It shows the power consumption of connected appliances, estimates your energy bill from single or time-of-use rates, and switches off when power use exceeds a set threshold. It handles up to 2300 W and 10 A, works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings, and needs no hub.

Tapo P110 overview

The Tapo P110 is TP-Link's mini smart Wi-Fi socket with energy monitoring, made for Australian power points. Its headline feature is energy tracking: TP-Link says it offers more comprehensive insights into the power consumption of home appliances with intuitive, straightforward data visualisations in the Tapo app. You can set your electricity rate, either a single rate or time-of-use billing, to estimate your energy bills, and use schedules to switch power-hungry devices on during off-peak periods to bring those bills down.

Safety features are part of the design. Improved power safety means the connected device switches off automatically when its power usage exceeds a threshold you set. The auto-off timer turns an appliance off after it has been left on for a set time, which TP-Link says saves energy and reduces fire risk. The P110 is certified to RCM and SAA and is made from UL94-V0 flame-retardant PC material. Its compact body is built smaller so it avoids blocking the adjacent socket.

Day-to-day control comes from the Tapo app, which lets you manage connected devices from anywhere. Local control keeps devices on your local area network accessible through the app even when the household internet goes offline. Voice commands work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings is listed as a supported third-party platform. Scenes control multiple devices at once, Away Mode turns a plugged-in lamp on and off to simulate someone at home, and you can share management permissions with family members. Setup uses TP-Link's onboarding technology for a faster connection, and no separate hub or accessories are required.

The P110 measures 76.5 x 43.5 x 42 mm and has a power button. It is rated for 220-240 V AC at 50/60 Hz with a maximum load of 2300 W, 10 A or a 1/10 HP motor. Wireless is IEEE 802.11b/g/n on 2.4 GHz only. TP-Link lists an operating range of 0 °C to 40 °C at 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. The box contains one Tapo P110 and a quick start guide.
