The TP-Link SX3206HPP is an Omada 6-port 10GE L2+ managed switch with four 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps RJ45 ports that supply 802.3bt (Type 3) PoE++ at up to 60 W per port, from a 200 W budget, plus two 10G SFP+ slots. It offers 120 Gbps switching, 48 static routes, ERPS and sFlow, and Omada SDN or standalone management in a compact desktop or rackmount case.

SX3206HPP overview

The SX3206HPP is TP-Link's Omada 6-port 10GE L2+ managed switch with 4-port PoE++, listed in TP-Link's Omada Access Max switch range. It is built for the newest high-bandwidth access points and devices: its four RJ45 ports are multi-gig, negotiating 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 5 Gbps or 10 Gbps, and all four supply PoE to IEEE 802.3af/at/bt (Type 3) with up to 60 W per port. The total PoE budget is 200 W, enough for all four ports at 50 W each or three at the full 60 W; TP-Link notes PoE budget figures are based on laboratory testing and the actual budget is not guaranteed. TP-Link's specification table labels the four ports as PoE+ ports while its highlights and product title call them PoE++; the standard listed is 802.3bt Type 3 with up to 60 W, which is the PoE++ class. 802.3bt Type 4 (90 W) is not listed.

Two 10G SFP+ slots complete the six ports, for fibre uplinks or links to other switches. The datasheet notes that only one 10G RJ45 SFP+ module (SM5310-T) can be inserted at a time. Switching capacity is 120 Gbps with an 89.28 Mpps forwarding rate, a 16 Mbit buffer, a 32K MAC address table and 9 KB jumbo frames. RJ45 and Micro-USB console ports give local CLI access. One overview heading on TP-Link's AU page reads 'Full 10G Fibre Switch'; the switch's own specification table lists four 10G RJ45 PoE++ ports and two SFP+ slots, and this page follows that table.

Power comes from an internal 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz supply; maximum power consumption is 244.90 W and heat dissipation 835.67 BTU/h at 110 V/60 Hz with 200 W of powered devices connected. It has two fans, and the datasheet lists noise of 41.8 dBA minimum and 42.7 dBA maximum at 1 m and 25 degrees C, so it is better suited to a comms cabinet than an open desk in a quiet office. The case measures 294 x 180 x 44 mm (11.6 x 7.1 x 1.7 in) and weighs 1.79 kg per the datasheet; it supports desktop or rack mounting, with a rackmount kit and rubber feet in the box, and has a physical security lock slot. Surge protection is plus or minus 6 kV in common mode on service ports, the operating range is 0 to 50 degrees C, and it is certified CE and FCC.

Its L2+ software matches TP-Link's larger Omada L2+ switches: 128 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, 48 IPv4/IPv6 static routes, 128 static ARP entries (512 ARP entries), proxy and gratuitous ARP, DHCP server, DHCP interface and VLAN relay, and DHCP L2 relay. Layer 2 features include link aggregation, spanning tree, loopback detection, flow control and mirroring, with 4K VLAN groups, 802.1Q, MAC VLAN (30 entries), protocol VLAN, private VLAN, GVRP, voice VLAN and QinQ with VLAN mapping and replace. Multicast supports 1,000 IGMP groups with IGMP snooping and authentication, MVR, MLD snooping and multicast filtering. ISP features include L2PT, DLDP, PPPoE ID insertion, ERPS, 802.3ah link OAM, sFlow and DDM. The datasheet lists PoE Extend Mode and Alternative A pinout.

For Omada SDN, centralised management uses the Omada Cloud-Based Controller, Omada Hardware Controller or Omada Software Controller; cloud access and the Omada app need one of those, and Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. TP-Link's SDN features include automatic device discovery, batch configuration and firmware upgrades, network monitoring and abnormal event warnings, and remote management of access points, switches and gateways across multiple sites from one interface. Standalone management is via the web GUI, CLI over the console port or Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 with RMON, LLDP/LLDP-MED, DHCP AutoInstall, dual image and configuration, cable diagnostics, EEE and password recovery. In the box are the switch, a power cord, a quick installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet. Against TP-Link's 2.5G PoE switches such as the SG3218XP-M2, the SX3206HPP trades port count for speed: four 10G PoE++ ports instead of sixteen 2.5G ports.
