The TP-Link SM5110-LR is an Omada 10GBase-LR SFP+ LC transceiver: a 1310 nm single-mode module that supports full-duplex 10G Ethernet connections up to 10 km over 9/125 μm fibre. It has an LC duplex port, supports DDM, is SFP-MSA compatible and hot swappable, and is designed to extend transfer distances based on 10 Gbps Ethernet connectivity.

SM5110-LR overview

The SM5110-LR (TL-SM5110-LR) is TP-Link's Omada 10GBase-LR SFP+ LC transceiver. TP-Link says it is designed to extend transfer distances based on 10 Gbps Ethernet connectivity, and describes it as a 10GBASE-LR high-performance 1310 nm single-mode SFP+ transceiver. It supports full-duplex 10G Ethernet connections up to 10 km with 9/125 μm fibre cables. The data rate is 10 Gbps, and the standards and protocols TP-Link lists are IEEE 802.3ae and TCP/IP. Its title on TP-Link's site names the key points: 10GBase-LR, SFP+ form factor and an LC connector.

On the optical side, the SM5110-LR uses a 1310 nm wavelength and is specified for 9/125 μm single-mode fibre, with a maximum cable length of 10 km. The port type is LC duplex. That makes it the long-reach option of the two 10G SFP+ LC transceivers in this family: TP-Link's SM5110-SR is the 10GBase-SR multi-mode module, rated for 300 m on 50/125 μm fibre. The comparison table below sets the two published specifications side by side, so you can match the module to the fibre type in use.

The hardware features TP-Link lists for the SM5110-LR are DDM, SFP-MSA and hot swappable, each marked Yes on the spec table. In other words, the module supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM), is listed as SFP-MSA compatible, and is hot swappable. Power is 3.3 V, and the module carries FCC and CE safety and emission approvals. It measures 56.7 x 13.9 x 10.35 mm (2.2 x 0.5 x 0.4 in).

TP-Link rates the SM5110-LR for operation from 0 to 70 °C (32 to 158 °F) and storage from -40 to 85 °C (-40 to 185 °F), with operating humidity of 10 to 90% RH non-condensing and storage humidity of 5 to 90% RH non-condensing. In the box are the SM5110-LR and an installation guide. When planning a link, match the module at each end to the 1310 nm wavelength, 9/125 μm single-mode fibre and the LC duplex connector, and keep the run within 10 km. ARC IP Networks supplies the SM5110-LR from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
