The TP-Link SM331T is an Omada 1000BASE-T RJ45 SFP module that converts an SFP port into a 1000 Mbps RJ45 port for switches, routers and other equipment with SFP ports. It supports 10/100/1000BASE-T operation in host systems and reaches 100 m over Cat 5e or better cable, a figure TP-Link bases on laboratory testing with Cat5e cable, so actual distance may vary. The module complies with SFP MSA, is hot-pluggable, has a fully metallic enclosure for low EMI, draws 0.5 W typical (0.8 W max) and is rated for 0-70 °C operation. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link SM331T is an Omada 1000BASE-T RJ45 SFP module that converts an SFP port into an RJ45 port for a 1000 Mbps connection over copper cable. It reaches 100 m on UTP Cat 5e or above, is hot-pluggable, supports TX Disable, has a fully metallic enclosure and is compliant with SFP MSA for switches, routers, gateways and other equipment with SFP ports.

SM331T overview

The SM331T is TP-Link's Omada 1000BASE-T RJ45 SFP module. TP-Link describes it as an SFP module that converts SFP ports to RJ45 ports, delivering a dependable 1000 Mbps connection over RJ45 cables. It is compliant with SFP MSA standards for compatibility with a wide range of network devices, and TP-Link positions it as a solution for high-speed data transmission in switches, routers, gateways and other network equipment with SFP ports. The module presents a single 1000 Mbps RJ45 port on the front, with a data rate of 1.25 Gbps, and the datasheet notes support for 10/100/1000BASE-T operation in host systems, with a 1000BASE-X MAC interface.

Cable reach is up to 100 m on UTP category 5e or above for 1000BASE-T. The datasheet also lists 100BASE-TX over UTP category 5 or above up to 100 m, and 10BASE-T over UTP category 3, 4 or 5 up to 100 m. Standards listed include IEEE 802.3, 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab and 802.3x, SFF-8472 and INF-8074, and the datasheet highlights compliance with IEEE Std 802.3-2002. Electrical figures in the datasheet include 100 Ω transmit output and receive input impedance, an input swing of 200 to 1200 mVpp and an output swing of 300 to 800 mVpp.

The SM331T is hot-pluggable, with what TP-Link calls a hot-pluggable SFP footprint, and it supports the TX Disable function. It is built in a fully metallic enclosure, which TP-Link highlights for low EMI, and its power input is 3.3 V. The module measures 67.4 x 13.4 x 13.8 mm. Safety and emission approvals are FCC and CE.

TP-Link rates the SM331T for the commercial operating temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees C, with storage from -40 to 85 degrees C, 10 to 90% RH non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90% RH non-condensing storage humidity. The package contains the SM331T module and an installation guide. In short, TP-Link describes the SM331T as converting SFP ports to RJ45 ports for a 1000 Mbps connection, with up to 100 m reach over UTP Cat 5e or above. ARC IP Networks supplies the SM331T from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
