The TP-Link SM321B (TL-SM321B) is an Omada 1000Base-BX WDM bi-directional SFP module that carries traffic over a single strand of fibre. It connects via an LC simplex port on 9/125 μm single-mode fibre, with a maximum cable length of 20 km at a 1.25 Gbps data rate. It transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm, and complies with IEEE 802.3z. The module follows the SFP-MSA, is hot swappable and supports DDM, running from 3.3 V with an operating temperature range of 0 to 70 °C. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link SM321B (TL-SM321B) is an Omada 1000Base-BX WDM bi-directional SFP module for 9/125 µm single-mode fibre: TX 1310 nm and RX 1550 nm, 1.25 Gbps, up to 20 km through an LC simplex port, with DDM, SFP-MSA compatibility and hot swapping. Its wavelengths are the reverse of TP-Link's SM321A.

SM321B overview

The SM321B, also listed by TP-Link as the TL-SM321B, is an Omada 1000Base-BX WDM bi-directional SFP module. As a WDM bi-directional module it uses a different wavelength for transmitting and for receiving: TP-Link specifies the SM321B to transmit at 1310 nm and receive at 1550 nm. It complies with IEEE 802.3z and TCP/IP, runs at a data rate of 1.25 Gbps, and is designed for single-mode fibre, specifically 9/125 µm single-mode, with a maximum cable length of 20 km. Its fibre interface is an LC simplex port.

The wavelength pairing is what matters most when you plan a link. TP-Link's SM321A is specified the opposite way, transmitting at 1550 nm and receiving at 1310 nm, with the same 1.25 Gbps data rate, 9/125 µm single-mode fibre, 20 km maximum cable length and LC simplex port. Fitted at opposite ends of a link, an SM321B and an SM321A have complementary wavelengths, and the comparison below sets out their published specifications side by side so you can check every figure.

The SM321B's hardware features are DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring), SFP-MSA compatibility and hot-swap support. It takes a 3.3 V power supply and carries FCC and CE certification. The module measures 55.4 x 14.6 x 12.9 mm. TP-Link rates it for operation from 0 °C to 70 °C and storage from -40 °C to 85 °C, with operating humidity of 10% to 90% RH and storage humidity of 5% to 90% RH, non-condensing. The key figures to check when specifying it are 1000Base-BX, 9/125 µm single-mode fibre, up to 20 km, TX 1310 nm / RX 1550 nm and LC simplex.

In the box are the SM321B module and an installation guide. When ordering for a new link, plan one SM321B for one end and a module with the reverse wavelengths, such as the SM321A, for the other, and confirm the run is 9/125 µm single-mode fibre within 20 km. The SM321B's published specification covers its standards (IEEE 802.3z and TCP/IP), wavelengths (TX 1310 nm, RX 1550 nm), dimensions, 3.3 V power supply, FCC and CE safety and emission compliance, single-mode cable, 9/125 µm fibre type, 20 km maximum cable length, 1.25 Gbps data rate, LC simplex port type, hardware features and environment ratings, all of which appear in the specification table on this page. ARC IP Networks supplies the SM321B from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
