The TP-Link SM321B-2 is an Omada 1000Base-BX WDM Bi-Directional SFP Module that sends and receives over a single fibre through an integrated LC simplex connector (Tx 1310 nm, Rx 1550 nm). It supports links up to 2 km over 9/125 μm single-mode fibre at a 1.25 Gbps data rate. Built to the SFP Multi-Source Agreement, it supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for real-time readings such as optical power and temperature, and is hot-swappable. TP-Link positions it for short- and medium-distance Gigabit fibre links between switches, routers and servers. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link SM321B-2 is an Omada 1000Base-BX WDM bi-directional SFP module: it transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm over a single LC simplex fibre, with a 2 km reach on 9/125 μm single-mode fibre and a 1.25 Gbps data rate. It supports DDM, is SFP-MSA compatible and hot swappable, and TP-Link says it provides gigabit fibre connections for switches, routers and servers.

SM321B-2 overview

The SM321B-2 is TP-Link's Omada 1000Base-BX WDM bi-directional SFP module. It is developed in accordance with the Small Form Pluggable Multi-Source Agreement (SFP-MSA) and adopts the 1000Base-BX standard. As a WDM bi-directional optical transceiver, the SM321B-2 uses an integrated LC bi-directional optical interface connector, and the data link reaches up to 2 km in 9/125 μm single-mode fibre (SMF). TP-Link says the SM321B-2 is used for short- and medium-distance fibre networks in practice, and that it provides fast and stable gigabit fibre connections for switches, routers, servers and similar equipment.

Its wavelengths are Tx 1310 nm and Rx 1550 nm, and the port type is LC simplex, so the link runs over a single fibre. TP-Link's SM321A-2 is the same type of module with the wavelengths reversed (Tx 1550 nm, Rx 1310 nm), and the comparison table below sets the two published specifications side by side so you can match the module at each end of the link. The data rate is 1.25 Gbps, and TP-Link lists IEEE 802.3z and TCP/IP as its standards and protocols. Maximum laser output power is 0.501 mW (-3 dBm).

The SM321B-2 incorporates the Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) feature, which is compatible with SFF-8472. TP-Link states that DDM supports real-time monitoring of the transceiver and shows parameters including transceiver current, transmitted and received optical power, and operating temperature. The module also supports hot swap. Power is 3.3 V, and safety and emission approvals are FCC and CE. Together, DDM, SFP-MSA compatibility and hot swapping are the three hardware features TP-Link lists for this module.

TP-Link rates the SM321B-2 for operation from 0 to 70 °C (32 to 158 °F) and storage from -40 to 85 °C (-40 to 185 °F), with operating humidity of 10 to 90% RH non-condensing and storage humidity of 5 to 90% RH non-condensing. In the box are the SM321B-2 module and an installation guide. When planning a link, check the 2 km maximum cable length against the run, use 9/125 μm single-mode fibre with an LC connector, and pair the 1310 nm Tx / 1550 nm Rx SM321B-2 with a module whose wavelengths are the reverse, such as the SM321A-2. ARC IP Networks supplies the SM321B-2 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
