The TP-Link SG5452X is an Omada 48-port Gigabit stackable lite L3 managed switch with 4 x 10G SFP+ slots (hardware V1). It is a non-PoE, fanless 19-inch rackmount switch with 176 Gbps switching per unit, physical stacking of up to four switches, static routing, RIP, OSPF, DHCP server and relay, ERPS and strong security, managed standalone or through an Omada controller.

SG5452X overview

The SG5452X is TP-Link's Omada 48-port Gigabit stackable lite L3 managed switch with 4 x 10G slots, listed on TP-Link Australia as hardware version V1 in the Omada campus switch range. TP-Link describes it as a dependable entry-level L3 switch tailored for the access layer, featuring L3 routing, fast 10 Gbps wired speeds and stacking options, and positions it as a reliable networking solution for SMEs and ISPs. It has 48 x 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, 4 x 1/10 Gbps SFP+ slots, one USB 2.0 port, one RJ45 console port and one USB Type-C console port (a console cable is included). It does not supply PoE, so it is aimed at desktop, server and uplink connections rather than powering access points or cameras.

Stacking is the headline. Up to four switches can be physically stacked, and TP-Link says this gives the network built-in redundancy and performance. The stacking ports are the 10G SFP+ slots themselves (the uplink ports can be used as stacking ports), with stacking bandwidth of up to 40 Gbps using a maximum of two stacking ports. Each unit has 176 Gbps switching capacity, 88 Gbps forwarding bandwidth and a 130.94 Mpps forwarding rate, with a 16K MAC table, 12 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. The datasheet lists a dual-core ARM 1.2 GHz CPU, 2 GB DDR4 DRAM and 4 MB NOR plus 512 MB NAND flash. Only one 10G RJ45 SFP+ module (SM5310-T) can be inserted at a time.

Layer 3 capability goes well beyond the static routing of TP-Link's L2+ switches: up to 128 IPv4 and 128 IPv6 interfaces, up to 512 IPv4 and 128 IPv6 static routes, a 1,024-entry host route table, RIP v1/v2 and RIPng, OSPF v2 and v3, 512 static and 2,000 dynamic ARP entries, proxy ARP, and a DHCP server with up to 64 IP pools and 1,000 manual bindings plus DHCP relay and DHCPv6 relay. Layer 2 covers link aggregation, spanning tree, port and VLAN-based loopback detection, flow control, ERPS for rapid protection and recovery in ring topologies, mirroring and RSPAN, IGMP and MLD snooping with a 2,000-entry multicast table, MVR, 4K VLANs including QinQ (256 entries), MAC, protocol, voice and private VLANs, and ISP features 802.3ah OAM, L2PT, DLDP, DDM and sFlow.

Security features include IPv4 and IPv6 ACLs, Dynamic ARP Inspection, CPU-Defend, DoS defend, 1,024-entry IP-MAC-Port and IPv6-MAC-Port binding, DHCP and DHCPv6 snooping, ND detection and snooping, IPv4 and IPv6 Source Guard, port security up to 64 MAC addresses per port, storm control, 802.1X with VLAN assignment, MAB, guest VLAN, RADIUS and AAA including TACACS+, port isolation, HTTPS and SSHv2. Standalone management is via web GUI, CLI through console port or telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and RMON, with DHCP auto install, dual image and EEE. Centralised management uses the Omada cloud-based controller (version 5.15.22 or later) or a hardware or software controller (5.15.20 or later), with cloud access, the Omada app and Zero-Touch Provisioning through the cloud-based controller. The fanless 440 x 220 x 44 mm rackmount chassis draws at most 34.1 W at 220 V, runs at -5 to 45 C and is CE, FCC and RoHS certified per the datasheet.
