The TP-Link SG3428XMPP is an Omada 24-port Gigabit L2+ managed switch with 4 x 10GE SFP+ slots, 8 x 802.3bt PoE++ ports (up to 90 W each) and 16 x 802.3af/at PoE+ ports (up to 30 W each), sharing a 500 W budget. It has 128 Gbps switching, 48 static routes, ERPS, QinQ and dual console ports in a 19-inch rackmount chassis, managed standalone or by an Omada controller.

SG3428XMPP overview

The SG3428XMPP is TP-Link's Omada 24-port Gigabit and 4-port 10GE SFP+ L2+ managed switch with 16-port PoE+ and 8-port PoE++. TP-Link Australia's page shows hardware version V1, and the linked datasheet, which names it the Omada Access Plus model, is for V1.20. It has 24 x 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, 4 x 10G SFP+ slots, one RJ45 console port and one micro-USB console port. The distinguishing feature is PoE++: ports 1 to 8 are 802.3bt PoE++ with up to 90 W each, for high-draw 802.3bt powered devices, while ports 9 to 24 are 802.3af/at PoE+ with up to 30 W each. The SG3428XMP, by contrast, has 24 PoE+ ports and no PoE++, with a 384 W budget.

The total PoE budget is 500 W, which TP-Link notes is a calculated figure, so a fully loaded switch must be planned against it rather than against the per-port maximums. The datasheet lists Perpetual PoE, Fast PoE, PoE Extend Mode and Alternative A pinout. Switching capacity is 128 Gbps with 95.23 Mpps forwarding, a 16K MAC address table, 12 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. The four SFP+ slots take TP-Link 10G modules such as the SM5110-LR (10 km single-mode) and SM5110-SR (300 m multi-mode) as well as Gigabit SFP modules; the datasheet notes that only one 10G RJ45 SFP+ module (SM5310-T) can be inserted at a time.

Physically it is a 440 x 330 x 44 mm 19-inch rack-mountable switch with three fans, an internal 100-240 V AC supply, a physical security lock slot and ±6 kV surge protection. The datasheet lists a net weight of 4.95 kg, ESD protection of ±15 kV air and ±8 kV contact, an MTBF of 292,830 hours at 25 C and noise figures from 38.8 dBA typical to 46.7 dBA at full load and 45 C, with a fanless mode when the PoE load is under 60 W at 25 C. Maximum consumption is 605.5 W at 110 V/60 Hz with 500 W of PDs connected, and standby consumption is 16.7 W at 220 V. TP-Link Australia lists 0 to 40 C operation; the V1.20 datasheet lists -5 to 45 C. Certification is CE and FCC.

Its L2+ software matches TP-Link's other Omada L2+ access switches: 128 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, 48 static routes, 128 static and 512 ARP entries, proxy and gratuitous ARP, DHCP server and relay, LACP link aggregation, STP/RSTP/MSTP, loopback detection, mirroring, 4K VLANs with QinQ and voice VLAN, plus ISP features L2PT, DLDP, PPPoE ID insertion, ERPS for rapid protection and recovery in a ring topology, 802.3ah OAM, DDM and sFlow. It is managed by web GUI, CLI through console port or telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, RMON, LLDP/LLDP-MED, DHCP AutoInstall and dual image, or centrally through an Omada cloud-based, hardware or software controller for cloud access, the Omada app, batch configuration and firmware upgrades and intelligent monitoring. Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada cloud-based controller. Note that TP-Link Australia's package list names the SG3428XMP switch alongside a power cord, quick installation guide, rackmount kit and rubber feet.
