The TP-Link SG3428XF is an Omada aggregation switch with 20 Gigabit SFP slots, four Gigabit SFP/RJ45 combo ports and four 10G SFP+ slots. It has 128 Gbps switching capacity, 1+1 redundant internal power supplies, static routing with 48 routes, ERPS ring protection, OAM and DDM for fibre links, RJ45 and Micro-USB console ports, and Omada SDN cloud management. It is a fibre aggregation switch and has no PoE.

SG3428XF overview

The SG3428XF is TP-Link's Omada aggregation 24-port SFP switch with 4 10GE SFP+ slots. TP-Link Australia lists hardware version V1.30, with V1 as the earlier version. Instead of copper access ports, it is built around fibre: 20 Gigabit SFP slots and four Gigabit combo SFP/RJ45 ports collect links from access switches across floors or buildings, and four 10 Gbps SFP+ slots carry high-bandwidth uplinks to the core, a gateway or servers. The datasheet notes that only one 10G RJ45 SFP+ module (SM5310-T) can be inserted at a time. There is also an RJ45 console port and a Micro-USB console port. This model does not supply PoE.

Switching capacity is 128 Gbps with a 95.23 Mpps forwarding rate, a 16K MAC address table, 12 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. TP-Link highlights two power supplies backing each other up: the SG3428XF has 1+1 redundant internal fixed power supplies on 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, so the switch keeps running if one supply fails. Maximum power consumption is 35.0 W at 220 V or 35.7 W at 110 V, and maximum heat dissipation 121.81 BTU/hr at 110 V. It has one fan, which the datasheet lists at 31.5 dBA at 1 m under load. The 1U chassis measures 440 x 220 x 44 mm (17.3 x 8.7 x 1.7 in), weighs 2.88 kg, is rack mountable with the included kit and has a physical security lock slot. Operating temperature is -5 to 45 degrees C, and the datasheet lists an MTBF of 344,080 hours.

For fibre networks, DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitoring) reports optical module health, and ERPS supports rapid protection and recovery in a ring topology. Other ISP features are L2PT, DLDP, PPPoE ID insertion, 802.3ah Ethernet Link OAM and sFlow. The TP-Link datasheet lists compatible modules including SM311LS (Gigabit single-mode, up to 20 km), SM311LM (Gigabit multimode, up to 550 m), SM321A/B and SM321A-2/B-2 Gigabit WDM bi-directional modules, SM5110LSA-10/LSB-10 10GBase-BX bi-directional SFP+ modules, the SM331T 1000BASE-T RJ45 SFP module and the SM5310-T 10GBASE-T RJ45 SFP+ module.

L2+ features include 128 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, 48 static routes, 128 static ARP entries and 512 ARP entries, DHCP server, DHCP interface, VLAN and L2 relay, link aggregation, spanning tree, loopback detection, 802.3x flow control and mirroring. Multicast supports 4,000 IPv4/IPv6 IGMP groups with IGMP snooping and authentication, MVR, MLD snooping and multicast filtering. VLAN features include 4K VLAN groups, 802.1Q, MAC VLAN with 30 entries, protocol VLAN, private VLAN, GVRP, voice VLAN and VLAN VPN with VLAN mapping and replace. Security includes IP-MAC-Port binding, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection, source guard, DoS defend, 802.1X, port security with up to 64 MACs per port and storm control, and QoS offers 8 priority queues with SP, WRR and SP+WRR scheduling.

Standalone management uses the web GUI, CLI through the console ports or Telnet (a console cable is included), SNMP v1/v2c/v3 with RMON, LLDP/LLDP-MED, DHCP AutoInstall, dual image and configuration, cable diagnostics and password recovery. For centralised management it needs an Omada cloud-based controller at version 5.15.22 or later, or a hardware or software controller at 5.15.20 or later, which adds cloud access, the Omada app, automatic device discovery, batch configuration and firmware upgrading, intelligent network monitoring and abnormal event warnings. Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the cloud-based controller. In the box are the switch, a power cord, a console cable, a rackmount kit, rubber feet and a quick installation guide.
