The TP-Link SG2016P is an Omada Access 16-port gigabit switch with eight 802.3at/af PoE+ ports (ports 1 to 8) and a 120 W total PoE budget, up to 30 W per port. It offers 32 Gbps switching, L2+ static routing, VLAN, ACL, QoS and IGMP snooping in a fanless metal desktop or wall-mount case, with Omada SDN cloud management or standalone web, CLI, SNMP and RMON management.

SG2016P overview

The SG2016P is TP-Link's Omada Access 16-port gigabit switch with 8-port PoE+. TP-Link's Australian product page shows hardware version V1.30 (V1 and V1.20 are also listed). All sixteen ports are 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, and ports 1 to 8 are 802.3at/af-compliant PoE+ ports. Total PoE budget is 120 W with up to 30 W PoE output per port, which covers access points, IP cameras and IP phones on the first eight ports, while ports 9 to 16 connect computers, printers and other wired devices. TP-Link notes that PoE budget calculations are based on laboratory testing and the actual PoE budget is not guaranteed and will vary with client limitations and environmental factors.

Switching capacity is 32 Gbps with a 23.81 Mpps packet forwarding rate, a 4.1 Mbit packet buffer, an 8K MAC address table and 9 KB jumbo frames. The switch runs from an AC/DC power adapter (input 100-240 V AC, output 53.5 V DC at 2.43 A), with maximum power consumption of 143.9 W at 220 V/50 Hz or 147.0 W at 110 V/60 Hz with 120 W of powered devices connected. It is fanless for silent operation, has a durable metal case with a physical security lock slot, measures 286 x 111.7 x 25.4 mm (11.3 x 4.4 x 1.0 in), weighs 0.92 kg according to the datasheet, and supports desktop or wall mounting. The operating temperature range is -5 to 40 degrees C, and it carries CE and FCC certification.

TP-Link highlights static routing to route internal traffic for higher efficiency. The SG2016P supports 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces and 32 IPv4/IPv6 static routes, DHCP server, DHCP interface, VLAN and L2 relay, and static, proxy and gratuitous ARP. Layer 2 features include link aggregation (static and 802.3ad LACP, up to 8 groups with up to 8 ports each), STP, RSTP and MSTP with STP security, port and VLAN-based loopback detection, 802.3x flow control, mirroring, DLDP and LLDP/LLDP-MED. VLAN support covers 4K VLAN groups, 802.1Q, MAC VLAN (12 entries), protocol VLAN, private VLAN, GVRP and voice VLAN. Multicast handling supports 511 IGMP groups with IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping, MVR, MLD snooping and multicast filtering. QoS offers 802.1p CoS/DSCP priority, 8 queues with SP and WRR, rate limiting and storm control.

Security covers AAA, 802.1X with port and MAC-based authentication, MAB, guest VLAN and RADIUS, IP/IPv6-MAC binding (512 entries), DHCP and DHCPv6 snooping, dynamic ARP inspection, ND detection and snooping, IP source guard (253 entries) and IPv6 source guard (183 entries), DoS defend, DHCP filter, port security with up to 64 MAC addresses per port, port isolation, CPP and MAC flapping detection. ACLs support up to 230 entries, with time-based, MAC, IP, IPv6 and combined rules. Management is secured with HTTPS and SSH.

For Omada SDN, centralised management works with the Omada Cloud-Based Controller (built-in version 5.15.22 or later), Omada Hardware Controller or Omada Software Controller (5.15.20 or later); cloud access and the Omada app need one of those controllers, and Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada Cloud-Based Controller. SDN features include automatic device discovery, batch configuration and firmware upgrades, network monitoring, abnormal event warnings, unified configuration and reboot schedules. Standalone management is via web GUI, CLI through Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and RMON, with dual image and configuration, cable diagnostics, EEE, ONVIF and packet capture listed in the datasheet. In the box are the switch, a power adapter, a power cord, rubber feet and an installation guide.
