The TP-Link SG2008 is an Omada 8-port Gigabit smart switch. Its eight 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports include one PD port, so it can be powered by an upstream PoE switch or injector as well as by its included 12 VDC / 1 A adapter. It does not supply PoE to other devices. It offers 16 Gbps switching, L2+ static routing with 32 routes, DHCP server and relay, 4K VLANs, voice VLAN, ACLs, 802.1X, IGMP snooping and IPv6, in a fanless metal case for desktop or wall mounting. Manage it through the web GUI, CLI, SNMP and RMON, or centrally with an Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controller and the Omada app.

The TP-Link SG2008 is an Omada 8-port Gigabit smart switch (hardware V4.30 on the AU page). It has eight Gigabit RJ45 ports, one of which is a PD port so the switch itself can be powered from an upstream PoE source instead of its 12 V adapter. It supports static routing, VLAN, ACL, QoS and IGMP snooping, has a fanless metal case for desktop or wall mounting, and is managed standalone or through an Omada controller.

SG2008 overview

The SG2008 is TP-Link's Omada 8-port Gigabit smart switch; the Australian product page shows hardware version V4.30, and TP-Link's V4.30 datasheet titles it Omada Access 8-Port Gigabit Switch. It has eight 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX. The detail that sets it apart from most 8-port desktop switches is the PD port: one of the eight ports can receive PoE, so the switch can be powered from an upstream PoE switch or injector and placed where there is no power outlet, such as a ceiling space, a wall cabinet or a meeting room. It can also run from its included 12 VDC / 1 A external adapter. The SG2008 receives PoE but does not supply it; if you need to power cameras or access points, the SG2008P has four 802.3at/af PoE+ ports with a 62 W budget.

Performance suits a small office or branch edge. Switching capacity is 16 Gbps, the packet forwarding rate is 11.9 Mpps, with an 8K MAC table, 4.1 Mbit packet buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames. The fanless metal case measures 209 x 126 x 26 mm and weighs 0.58 kg according to the datasheet, with desktop or wall mounting, a physical security lock slot and plus or minus 6 kV surge protection. Maximum power consumption is 6.4 W (220 V/50 Hz) and standby is 2.0 W. TP-Link's AU page lists an operating temperature of 0 to 40 degrees C; the V4.30 datasheet lists -5 to 40 degrees C.

Although it is a compact smart switch, it carries L2+ features. It supports 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, static routing with 32 IPv4/IPv6 static routes so internal traffic between VLANs can be routed efficiently, DHCP server, DHCP interface and VLAN relay, DHCP L2 relay and static, proxy and gratuitous ARP. VLAN support covers up to 4K VLAN groups, 802.1Q tagging, MAC VLAN (12 entries), protocol VLAN, GVRP and voice VLAN. QoS uses 802.1p CoS/DSCP with 8 priority queues, SP and WRR scheduling, rate limiting and storm control. Multicast features include IGMP snooping, MVR, multicast filtering and 511 shared IPv4/IPv6 multicast groups, and L2 features include link aggregation, spanning tree, loopback detection, flow control, mirroring, DLDP and LLDP-MED.

Security and management are business grade. Up to 230 ACL entries (MAC, IP, IPv6, combined and time-based), IP-MAC-port binding, AAA, 802.1X with MAB and guest VLAN, RADIUS, DHCP and DHCPv6 snooping, ARP inspection, ND detection and IP source guard protect the network edge. Standalone management includes a web GUI, CLI through Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3, RMON, dual image and configuration, CPU monitoring, cable diagnostics, EEE and system log. With an Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controller, it gains centralised cloud management via the web or the Omada app, automatic device discovery, batch configuration and firmware upgrades, intelligent network monitoring and abnormal event warnings; Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada cloud-based controller. In the box are the SG2008, a power adapter, an installation guide and rubber feet. It is certified CE and FCC.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the SG2008 from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

No. The SG2008 has no PoE output. One of its eight ports is a PD port, which lets the switch itself be powered by an upstream PoE source. For PoE output, look at the SG2008P with four PoE+ ports.

Either from its included 12 VDC / 1 A external adapter, or by PoE received on its PD port from an upstream PoE switch or injector.

Yes. It is an Omada smart switch with a web GUI, CLI, SNMP and RMON, and L2+ features such as static routing, VLAN, ACL, QoS and IGMP snooping.

No. It works standalone. Centralised cloud management, the Omada app and batch configuration require an Omada hardware, software or cloud-based controller, and Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the cloud-based controller.

TP-Link's Australian page lists the SG2008 V4.30, with a V4 page also available.

Yes. It supports desktop and wall mounting, and it is fanless.

The AU product page lists 0 to 40 degrees C; the V4.30 datasheet lists -5 to 40 degrees C.

The datasheet lists 0.58 kg, with dimensions of 209 x 126 x 26 mm.

The SG2008, a power adapter, an installation guide and rubber feet.
