The TP-Link Sector Bridge 5 is an Omada 5 GHz 867 Mbps central hub for long-range indoor and outdoor point-to-multipoint wireless bridging. With Flex Bridge 5 units it supports up to 32 bridges via TDMA (a lab-tested figure), linking multiple buildings or remote sites. Two 16 dBi directional antennas with a 120° horizontal beamwidth give a rated transmission distance of 5,000 m. It has one Gigabit Ethernet port, DIP switches for simple pairing, a ball-joint mount for pole or wall installation and an IP66 weatherproof enclosure. Power is via 802.3af PoE, 24V passive PoE (adapter included) or 12V DC. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link Omada Sector Bridge 5 is a 5 GHz central hub for point-to-multipoint wireless bridging: it connects up to 32 Flex Bridge 5 endpoints using TDMA, with a 120° beamwidth from two 16 dBi directional antennas, up to 867 Mbps and links of up to 5 km. It has an IP66 enclosure rated from -40 °C to 70 °C and DIP-switch pairing.

Sector Bridge 5 overview

Sector Bridge 5 is the hub of TP-Link's Omada long-range bridge range. TP-Link describes it as the core scalable hub for demanding point-to-multipoint bridge networks, designed to integrate with Flex Bridge 5 endpoints and to deliver robust point-to-multipoint connectivity in the toughest outdoor settings, such as remote mining sites or isolated islands. Its job is to connect many remote endpoints back to one point, enabling multipoint networks across multiple buildings or remote endpoints, and TP-Link describes it as ideal for extending networks across buildings and remote locations.

One Sector Bridge 5 connects up to 32 Flex Bridges. TP-Link states that this capacity is achievable only when used with Flex Bridge 5, is based on laboratory testing, and can vary with installation conditions, mounting location, network traffic and radio frequency interference. Built-in TDMA (time division multiple access) is designed for collision-free transmission, fair bandwidth allocation and high efficiency for every node. Two internal 16 dBi dual-polarised directional antennas give a broad 120° horizontal and 13° vertical beamwidth so one hub can cover endpoints spread across a wide area, at up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz (802.11a/n/ac, 2x2) over distances of up to 5 km (3.1 mi). TP-Link notes these are physical rates and lab-based coverage figures that vary with antennas, environment and client limitations. A 2.4 GHz radio is for device management only.

Deployment is designed to be quick. As a dedicated main bridge, the Sector Bridge 5 pairs with Flex Bridge 5 devices by matching codes on a four-position DIP switch, which TP-Link says significantly reduces configuration time. It supports pole and wall mounting with the kits included, and has a built-in bubble level and ball joint for accurate angle adjustment. The Omada app shows real-time signal strength for alignment and can run an instant speed test to verify the link. Power comes from 802.3af PoE, 24 V passive PoE using the included adapter (for dry indoor use only), or a 12 V / 1 A DC input. Maximum power consumption is 9 W on DC and 10.5 W on PoE. There is one gigabit Ethernet port with PoE in, plus a grounding terminal.

The 358.5 x 124.6 x 70.5 mm, 0.69 kg unit has an IP66 weatherproof enclosure, 6 kV lightning protection on the Ethernet port and an operating range of -40 °C to 70 °C; TP-Link notes that lightning and ESD protection depends on proper setup, grounding and cable shielding. In standalone mode the Sector Bridge 5 can be set up on site through the Omada app with no internet required. Switching to Omada SDN mode, through Omada Central (cloud-based), an Omada hardware controller or the Omada software controller, enables cloud management and remote monitoring from anywhere, which require an Omada controller. SSH, SNMP, email alerts, reboot schedules and rogue AP detection are also supported. ARC IP Networks supplies the Sector Bridge 5 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
