The TP-Link S5500-8MHP2XF is an Omada Pro 8-port PoE+ 2.5G L2+ managed switch with two 10G SFP+ slots. All eight 2.5 Gbps RJ45 ports supply 802.3at/af PoE+ at up to 30 W each from a 240 W budget, switching capacity is 80 Gbps, and it adds static routing, ERPS, QinQ and sFlow with Omada Pro cloud management in a compact 1U rackmount case.

S5500-8MHP2XF overview

The S5500-8MHP2XF is TP-Link's Omada Pro 8-port PoE+ 2.5G L2+ managed switch with two SFP+ slots, described by TP-Link as a full enterprise-level managed switch for building and expanding a fast network. It is a small port-count switch with a big PoE budget: all eight RJ45 ports run at 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps and all eight are IEEE 802.3at/af PoE+ ports with up to 30 W per port, sharing a 240 W total PoE budget. That is enough budget to run every port at the 30 W PoE+ maximum at once; TP-Link notes that PoE budget figures are calculated from laboratory testing. Two 10G SFP+ slots provide uplinks, and an RJ45 console port and a Micro-USB console port give local CLI access. TP-Link's product page for this model is on its global Omada site; an Australian product page was not found.

Performance figures are 80 Gbps switching capacity and a 59.52 Mpps packet forwarding rate, with a 12 Mbit packet buffer, a 16K MAC address table and 9 KB jumbo frames, and TP-Link describes the 10G SFP+ uplinks as delivering non-blocking performance and minimal latency to servers and other switches. Power is from an internal 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz supply; maximum power consumption is 285.9 W and maximum heat dissipation 975.54 BTU/h at 110 V/60 Hz with 240 W of powered devices connected. It has two fans, measures 440 x 180 x 44 mm (17.3 x 7.1 x 1.7 in), and is rack mountable with the rackmount kit in the box. The listed operating temperature range is 0 to 50 degrees C, and it carries CE and FCC certification.

For routing and switching, the S5500-8MHP2XF supports 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, static routing with 48 static routes, 128 static ARP entries (512 ARP entries), proxy and gratuitous ARP, DHCP server, DHCP relay and DHCP L2 relay. Layer 2 features include static link aggregation and 802.3ad LACP (up to 8 groups with up to 8 ports per group), STP, RSTP and MSTP with STP security and loop protect, port and VLAN-based loopback detection, flow control and HOL blocking prevention. VLAN support covers 4K VLAN groups, 802.1Q, MAC VLAN (256 entries), protocol VLAN, GVRP, voice VLAN, OUI-based VLAN and QinQ with VLAN mapping and replace. Multicast handling includes 511 IGMP groups, IGMP v1/v2/v3 snooping with fast leave and querier, IGMP authentication, MVR, MLD v1/v2 snooping and multicast filtering with 256 profiles.

TP-Link lists service-provider features on this model: 802.3ah Ethernet link OAM, L2PT, DLDP, PPPoE ID insertion, DDM, ERPS and sFlow. Security covers IP-MAC-port and IPv6-MAC-port binding (512 entries each), DHCP and DHCPv6 snooping, ARP inspection, ND detection and snooping, IPv4 and IPv6 source guard (100 entries each), DoS defend, DHCP filter, port security with up to 64 MAC addresses per port and storm control. QoS offers 8 priority queues, 802.1p CoS/DSCP priority, SP, WRR and SP+WRR scheduling, port and flow-based rate limiting, and actions for flows including mirror, redirect, rate limit and QoS remark.

Management is through Omada Pro. Centralised management uses the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller or Omada Pro Software Controller, cloud access and the Omada app work through an Omada Pro controller, and Zero-Touch Provisioning requires the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller; Intelligent Anomaly Detection is also listed. Standalone management uses the web GUI, CLI over the console port or Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 with RMON, LLDP/LLDP-MED, DHCP AutoInstall, dual image and dual configuration, CPU monitoring, cable diagnostics, EEE, password recovery and remote packet capture. In the box are the switch, a power cord, an installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet. Within the Omada Pro S5500 line, the S5500-24MPP4XF is the larger 2.5G sibling, with 24 x 2.5G PoE ports (eight of them PoE++), a 500 W budget and four SFP+ slots; the S5500-8MHP2XF suits a smaller closet with eight multi-gig PoE+ devices.
