The TP-Link S5500-24MPP4XF is an Omada Pro L2+ managed switch with 24 x 2.5 Gbps RJ45 ports, eight of them 802.3bt PoE++ (up to 60 W per port) and sixteen 802.3at/af PoE+ (up to 30 W per port), sharing a 500 W PoE budget. Four 10G SFP+ slots handle uplinks, switching capacity is 200 Gbps, and it adds static routing, ERPS, QinQ and Omada Pro cloud management in a 1U rackmount case.

S5500-24MPP4XF overview

The S5500-24MPP4XF is TP-Link's Omada Pro 24-port PoE+ 2.5G L2+ managed switch with four SFP+ slots, which TP-Link describes as a full enterprise-level managed switch for building and expanding a fast network. Every one of its 24 RJ45 ports runs at 2.5 Gbps, which suits multi-gig Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 access points that would be held back by gigabit edge ports. Of those ports, eight are IEEE 802.3bt/at/af PoE++ ports with up to 60 W per port and sixteen are IEEE 802.3at/af PoE+ ports with up to 30 W per port, and together they draw on a 500 W total PoE budget. TP-Link notes that PoE budget figures are calculated from laboratory testing. For uplinks it has four 10G SFP+ slots, and for management access an RJ45 console port and a Micro-USB console port.

Performance is listed as 200 Gbps switching capacity and a 148.80 Mpps packet forwarding rate, with a 16 Mbit packet buffer, a 32K MAC address table and 9 KB jumbo frames; TP-Link describes it as non-blocking with minimal latency for connections to servers and other switches. One sentence in TP-Link's AU overview mentions two SFP+ slots, but the specification table and highlights both list four 10G SFP+ slots, and this page follows the specification table. The switch runs from an internal 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz supply, with maximum power consumption of 629.1 W and maximum heat dissipation of 2153.45 BTU/h at 110 V/60 Hz with 500 W of powered devices connected. It has three fans and a physical security lock slot, measures 440 x 330 x 44 mm (17.3 x 13.0 x 1.7 in), and is rack mountable with the rackmount kit included.

The L3 feature set covers 32 IPv4/IPv6 interfaces, static routing with 48 static routes, 128 static ARP entries (512 ARP entries), proxy and gratuitous ARP, DHCP server, DHCP interface and VLAN relay and DHCP L2 relay. Layer 2 support includes static link aggregation and 802.3ad LACP (up to 8 groups with up to 8 ports each), 802.1d STP, 802.1w RSTP and 802.1s MSTP with STP security including loop protect, port and VLAN-based loopback detection, HOL blocking prevention and port and CPU mirroring. VLAN options extend to 4K VLAN groups, MAC VLAN (256 entries), protocol VLAN, private VLAN, GVRP, voice VLAN and VLAN VPN (QinQ) with VLAN mapping and replace. Multicast handling supports 511 IGMP groups with IGMP snooping and authentication, MVR, MLD snooping and multicast filtering. QoS offers 8 priority queues, 802.1p CoS/DSCP, SP, WRR and SP+WRR scheduling, rate limiting and QoS remarking.

TP-Link also lists ISP-oriented features on this model: L2PT, Device Link Detect Protocol (DLDP), PPPoE ID insertion, ERPS ring protection, 802.3ah Ethernet link OAM and DDM for optical modules. Security includes IP-MAC-port binding and IPv6-MAC-port binding (512 entries each), DHCP and DHCPv6 snooping, ARP inspection, ND detection and snooping, IPv4 and IPv6 source guard (100 entries each), DoS defend, DHCP filter, port security with up to 64 MAC addresses per port, storm control and 802.1X with port and MAC-based authentication, VLAN assignment and MAB. ACLs cover MAC, IP, combined, packet content and IPv6 rules, applied to ports or VLANs and time-based.

Management is through Omada Pro: centralised management by the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller or Omada Pro Software Controller, cloud access and the Omada app through an Omada Pro controller, and Zero-Touch Provisioning with the Omada Pro Cloud-Based Controller. Omada Pro adds Intelligent Anomaly Detection, automatic device discovery, batch configuration and firmware upgrades, network monitoring and abnormal event warnings. Standalone management uses the web GUI, CLI over console or Telnet, SNMP v1/v2c/v3 with RMON, LLDP/LLDP-MED, DHCP AutoInstall, dual image and dual configuration, cable diagnostics, EEE and remote packet capture. It is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C and certified CE and FCC. In the box are the switch, a power cord, a quick installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet. Compared with the gigabit S5500-24GP4F, which TP-Link lists with 24 gigabit PoE+ ports, a 250 W budget and four gigabit SFP slots, the S5500-24MPP4XF moves every edge port to 2.5 Gbps, adds eight PoE++ ports, doubles the PoE budget to 500 W and upgrades the uplinks to 10G SFP+.
