The HPE Aruba Networking AP-505 in depth

Cost-effective Wi-Fi 6 for medium density

HPE positions the AP-505 as an affordable Wi-Fi 6 access point for venues such as schools, midsize offices and retailers. Its two 2x2 radios deliver up to 1.49 Gbps maximum real-world aggregate data rate, and OFDMA plus MU-MIMO let it serve many Wi-Fi 6 clients on each channel at once.

IoT, security and management

A built-in Bluetooth 5 and Zigbee radio lets the AP act as an IoT platform for location and asset tracking without overlay hardware. WPA3, Enhanced Open and an onboard TPM protect users and credentials, and the AP can run standalone, with a gateway, or under HPE Aruba Networking Central.

Power and installation

The AP-505 runs from 802.3af/at PoE or a 12 Vdc adapter and operates without restrictions on DC or 802.3at (class 4) PoE. It ships with a pre-installed bracket for the separately sold ceiling and wall mount kits.

HPE rates it at 1.49 Gbps maximum real-world aggregate data rate (HE80/HE20): up to 1.2 Gbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with 2SS clients.

It has a pre-installed bracket on the back, but the ceiling rail, solid surface or wall-box mount kit is sold separately.

HPE lists AOS and InstantOS 8.6.0.0 or AOS 10.1.0.0 as the minimum releases.

Up to 256 associated clients per radio (512 in total), with real-world density depending on the environment.
