The QNAP QSW-1108-8T-R2 in depth

Entry-level 2.5GbE for home and small office

Compared with jumping straight to 10GbE, 2.5GbE is a more cost-effective upgrade, and the QSW-1108-8T-R2 works with existing cabling. Connect desktops, laptops, NAS, Wi-Fi 6/6E access points, set-top boxes and game consoles for smoother backups, media editing and entertainment.

Compact, quiet and self-healing

At 30% smaller than previous models, it fits neatly on a desk, with LEDs at the front and cables at the back. Loop detection locks looped ports automatically, and passive cooling through heat sinks, metal plates and vents keeps noise low.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the QNAP QSW-1108-8T-R2 from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Its eight 2.5GBASE-T ports auto-negotiate 2.5G, 1G or 100M to suit each connected device.

From QNAP's spec tables, the R2 is smaller (26 x 160 x 110 mm vs 27 x 240 x 105 mm), has a lower 12W maximum power draw (vs 18W) and adds IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet; it has a 4K MAC table versus 16K on the QSW-1108-8T.

Yes. It uses internal heat sinks, metal heat dissipation plates and vent holes instead of a fan.

No. It is an unmanaged switch with auto-negotiation, so devices simply plug in.

QNAP backs it with a 2-year warranty, extendable up to 5 years with a purchased warranty extension.
