The TP-Link POE4824G is an Omada 48 V, 24 W passive PoE adapter that sends power and gigabit data to a compatible device over a single Ethernet cable. It has shielded 10/100/1000 Mbps Data IN and Passive PoE ports, a 100-240 V AC input and wall-mount brackets, and TP-Link names access points such as the Omada EAP245 as compatible.

POE4824G overview

The POE4824G is a passive PoE adapter from TP-Link's Omada accessory range. TP-Link describes it as a 48 V / 24 W passive PoE adapter that provides simultaneous power and data transmission to compatible devices through a single Ethernet cable. It has three connections: a shielded 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 Data IN port that connects to your switch or router, a shielded 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 Passive PoE port that connects to the powered device, and a 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz AC power input. The datasheet lists auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX on the RJ45 ports, and an output of 48 VDC at a maximum of 24 W.

The POE4824G supplies passive PoE, so the device on its PoE port must be one that accepts 48 V passive PoE. TP-Link states that the POE4824G is compatible with access points such as the Omada EAP245, and its datasheet describes the POE2412G, POE4818G and POE4824G family as used to supply power and transmit data to a passive PoE device. Within that family the POE4824G is the 48 VDC, 24 W model. Check the PoE type and voltage your access point or device expects before connecting it.

Both RJ45 ports are gigabit, and the published network media are: 1000BASE-T runs use UTP Category 5, 5e or 6 cable up to 100 m, 100BASE-TX uses Category 5 or 5e UTP or EIA/TIA-568 100 ohm STP up to 100 m, and 10BASE-T uses Category 3, 4 or 5 UTP or 100 ohm STP up to 100 m. The datasheet highlights include gigabit speed support, plug-and-play operation that requires no configuration, and the ability to auto-determine the necessary power requirements. A PWR LED shows that the adapter is powered.

The POE4824G is designed for wall mounting, and the mounting brackets come in the box, which TP-Link says makes installation easy. Without the bracket it measures 109.8 x 57 x 33.9 mm; with the bracket the height is 37 mm. It is rated for operation from 0 to 40 degrees C at 10 to 90 per cent non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 to 70 degrees C. Certifications are FCC and CE. In the box are the Omada 48V 24W Passive PoE Adapter POE4824G, a power cord and wall mounting kits. ARC IP Networks supplies the POE4824G from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
