The TP-Link POE380S is an Omada PoE++ injector that adds up to 90 W of power to a single Ethernet run. Its data-in and power+data-out RJ45 ports both support 10 Gbps, 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, 100 Mbps and 10 Mbps, an auto-sensing algorithm determines the power each device needs, and it is plug and play for desk or wall mounting.

POE380S overview

The POE380S is TP-Link's Omada PoE++ injector, with one data-in port and one power+data-out port. Network traffic enters on the RJ45 data-in port, and power and data leave together on the RJ45 power+data-out port, which delivers a maximum of 90 W. Both ports support 10 Gbps, 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, 100 Mbps and 10 Mbps. The injector itself plugs into mains through its AC socket and accepts 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz, 1.6 A.

Power delivery is automatic. TP-Link's auto-sensing algorithm lets the POE380S power IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at powered devices, and the injector auto-determines the power each device needs, up to the 90 W maximum on its output port. TP-Link lists plug-and-play operation among its basic functions. Supported standards listed for the injector include IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3af and 802.3at. LED indication is listed as Power / PoE.

For cabling, TP-Link specifies UTP category 5, 5e or 6 cable up to 100 m for 1000BASE-T, UTP category 5 or 5e (or EIA/TIA-568 100 Ω STP) up to 100 m for 100BASE-TX, and UTP category 3, 4 or 5 (or 100 Ω STP) up to 100 m for 10BASE-T. The published network media specifications do not list cable categories for 2.5G, 5G or 10G operation, so the record gives no official cable category or distance for multi-gigabit operation.

Physically the POE380S measures 155 x 70 x 42 mm (6.1 x 2.8 x 1.7 in, W x D x H), and TP-Link lists both wall-mounting and desktop installation among its basic functions. It is rated for operation from 0 °C to 45 °C (32 °F to 113 °F) at 10% to 90% RH non-condensing, and for storage from -40 °C to 70 °C (-40 °F to 158 °F) at 5% to 90% RH non-condensing. FCC and CE certifications are listed. In the box are the POE380S, a power cord and an installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the POE380S from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
