The TP-Link POE260S (TL-POE260S) is an Omada 2.5G PoE+ injector that adds up to 30 W of IEEE 802.3af/at power to one Ethernet cable without slowing a multi-gig link. Both RJ45 ports run at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps, the power supply is built in, power is auto-detected for each device, and it installs plug-and-play on a desk or wall.

POE260S overview

The POE260S, also listed by TP-Link as the TL-POE260S, is the 2.5G member of the Omada PoE injector family. TP-Link's Australian product page shows hardware version V2 (V1 is also listed). It fully complies with the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards and supplies up to 30 W of PoE power, and TP-Link says it can work with all IEEE 802.3af/at PoE compliant powered devices (PDs) or equivalent products to expand your network to places where there is no power line or outlet, but where you want to fix a device such as a 2.5G access point, HD IP camera or IP phone. Because data and power travel together over one Ethernet cable, TP-Link notes that it reduces infrastructure costs.

What sets the POE260S apart from TP-Link's gigabit injectors is port speed. Both network ports are multi-gig RJ45 ports that run at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps: one data-in port that connects to your switch or router, and one power+data-out port that feeds the powered device. TP-Link's highlight is that the two 2.5 Gbps ports ensure faster transmission, which matters for a Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 access point with a 2.5G uplink, where a gigabit injector in the cable path would cap the link at 1 Gbps. The supported standards are IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3bz, 802.3af and 802.3at.

Cabling follows the usual 100 m Ethernet limits. TP-Link lists 2.5GBASE-T over UTP Category 5e or better cable (maximum 100 m), 1000BASE-T over UTP Category 5, 5e or 6 (maximum 100 m), 100BASE-TX over UTP Category 5 or 5e or EIA/TIA-568 100 ohm STP (maximum 100 m), and 10BASE-T over UTP Category 3, 4 or 5 or 100 ohm STP (maximum 100 m). If you plan to run the full 2.5 Gbps rate, use Cat5e or better on both sides of the injector.

Power handling is automatic. An auto-sensing algorithm lets the POE260S provide power to 802.3af/at powered devices, and it automatically determines the necessary power requirement of the connected device and supplies that exact amount, up to a maximum of 30 W. The power supply is integrated, so there is no separate adapter brick: input is 100 to 240 V AC at 50/60 Hz through the AC socket on the injector, and a power cord is in the box. A single power LED shows status, on when it is supplying power normally and off when there is no power supply. TP-Link describes installation as plug and play, with no configuration required.

Physically the POE260S measures 125 x 59.4 x 36.8 mm (4.9 x 2.3 x 1.4 in) and supports both wall mounting and desktop installation; the datasheet gives the distance between the wall-mounting holes as 115.7 mm vertical and 37.7 mm horizontal, and wall mounting kits are included. It is rated for 0 to 40 degrees C operation (storage -40 to 70 degrees C) at 10 to 90 per cent RH non-condensing operating humidity, and the AU page lists FCC, CE and RoHS certification. It is a single-port injector, so it is best used to add PoE+ to one 2.5G device behind a non-PoE 2.5G or 10G switch port, rather than as a replacement for a PoE switch when several devices need power.

Key features

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the POE260S from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

It is an Omada 2.5G PoE+ injector (also listed as TL-POE260S) that adds up to 30 W of IEEE 802.3af/at power to a single Ethernet cable, with two 2.5 Gbps RJ45 ports.

No. Both the data-in and the power+data-out ports support 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps (IEEE 802.3bz), so a 2.5G link stays at 2.5 Gbps through the injector.

Up to 30 W. It automatically determines the power requirement of the connected 802.3af/at device and supplies that amount.

TP-Link lists IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at only, with a maximum of 30 W. Devices that need 802.3bt power are not listed as supported.

TP-Link specifies UTP Category 5e or better for 2.5GBASE-T, up to 100 m.

No. The power supply is integrated; it takes 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz through its AC socket and a power cord is included.

No. TP-Link describes it as plug and play, requiring no configuration.

Yes. It supports wall-mounting and desktop installation, and wall mounting kits are included. The mounting holes are 115.7 mm apart vertically and 37.7 mm horizontally.

Both supply up to 30 W of 802.3af/at PoE+ from an integrated power supply. The POE260S has 2.5 Gbps ports and adds IEEE 802.3bz; the POE160S has gigabit ports.

0 to 40 degrees C, with 10 to 90 per cent RH non-condensing operating humidity.
