The TP-Link POE260R is an Omada 2.5 Gigabit PoE+ splitter: it takes standard IEEE 802.3af/at PoE+ input and converts it into a selectable 12 V, 9 V or 5 V DC output at 2 A, while passing data at up to 2.5 Gbps. It powers devices over existing network cables without a separate power adapter, up to 100 m, and needs no configuration.

POE260R overview

The POE260R is TP-Link's Omada 2.5 Gigabit PoE+ splitter. TP-Link describes it as a splitter that delivers high-speed data and converts standard PoE+ input into a flexible 12 V / 9 V / 5 V DC output, powering various devices over existing network cables without requiring a separate power adapter. It is compatible with IEEE 802.3af/at compliant PSEs, and it delivers power up to 100 metres.

It has three connections. The POWER+DATA IN port is a 10M/100M/1000M/2.5Gbps auto-negotiation RJ45 port that receives the PoE feed. The LAN OUT port is a 10M/100M/1000M/2.5Gbps auto-negotiation RJ45 port that carries the data on to the device. The DC OUT power output port supplies the device with power, and the output is adjustable to 5 VDC / 2 A, 9 VDC / 2 A or 12 VDC / 2 A. That selectable output is one of the highlights TP-Link lists, alongside 802.3af/at compliance, 2.5 Gigabit speed support and plug-and-play installation with no configuration required.

Supported standards are IEEE 802.3i, IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.3ab, IEEE 802.3bz, IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at. For cabling, TP-Link specifies 4-pair UTP/STP of Cat. 5e or above (maximum 100 m) for 2.5GBASE-T and for 1000BASE-T, 2-pair UTP/STP of Cat. 5 or above for 100BASE-TX, and 2-pair UTP/STP of Cat. 3, 4 or 5 for 10BASE-T, each up to 100 m. So to keep 2.5 Gbps between the PoE source and the splitter, a Cat5e or better 4-pair cable is required by the specification.

The POE260R measures 80.8 x 54 x 24 mm (3.2 x 2.1 x 0.9 in) and has a PWR LED. It is rated for operation from -5 to 45 °C (23 to 113 °F) at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 to 70 °C at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. It carries CE and FCC certification. TP-Link lists the package contents as the POE260R, a power cord and an installation guide. The DC OUT port's output is selectable between 5 V, 9 V and 12 V, each rated at 2 A. ARC IP Networks supplies the POE260R from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
