The TP-Link POE170S is an Omada PoE++ injector with two Gigabit ports: a 10/100/1000Mbps data-in port and a power+data-out port supplying up to 60 W. It complies with IEEE 802.3af/at/bt (type 3) and automatically determines the power each device needs; it is not compatible with passive PoE or other non-standard PoE devices. TP-Link positions it for extending the network to places without power outlets, such as PTZ IP cameras, access points and LEDs. Plug and play in a durable metal casing for wall or desktop installation, with power cord and RJ45 cable included. The TP-Link POE170S is an Omada PoE++ injector that adds power to a single gigabit Ethernet link. It has a 10/100/1000 Mbps data-in port and a 10/100/1000 Mbps power+data-out port delivering up to 60 W, auto-determines the power a connected device needs, and comes in a metal case for desktop or wall mounting.

POE170S overview

The POE170S is TP-Link's Omada PoE++ injector, a single-port device that combines data from an existing network port with power from mains, then sends both down one Ethernet cable to a powered device. It has three connections: a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 data-in port that connects to your switch or router, a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 power+data-out port that connects to the powered device, and an AC socket for the supplied power cord. The power+data-out port delivers a maximum of 60 W and both RJ45 ports run at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps.

Power delivery is automatic. TP-Link lists an auto-sensing algorithm that provides power to 802.3af and 802.3at powered devices, and the injector auto-determines the necessary power requirements of the connected device, up to the 60 W maximum. TP-Link describes the POE170S as plug-and-play. There are two LED indicators, Power and PoE. The AC input accepts 100 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz and is rated at 1.6 A, and the power cord is included in the box.

Supported Ethernet standards are IEEE 802.3i (10BASE-T), 802.3u (100BASE-TX) and 802.3ab (1000BASE-T), with 802.3af and 802.3at for PoE. Network media requirements are listed for each speed: 10BASE-T over UTP category 3, 4 or 5 cable or EIA/TIA-568 100 Ω STP up to 100 m; 100BASE-TX over UTP category 5 or 5e or 100 Ω STP up to 100 m; and 1000BASE-T over UTP category 5, 5e or 6 cable up to 100 m. These are the limits to plan cable runs against.

The POE170S is built in a metal casing measuring 155 x 70 x 42 mm and supports both desktop and wall-mounting installation. It is rated for operating temperatures of 0 to 45 degrees C and storage from -40 to 70 degrees C, with 10 to 90% RH non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90% RH non-condensing storage humidity. Certifications are FCC and CE. The box contains the POE170S injector, a power cord, an RJ45 cable and an installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the POE170S from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
