The TP-Link Omada NVR16-8P-2T is a 16-channel network video recorder with eight built-in PoE+ ports and a preinstalled 2TB hard drive, expandable to a single 16 TB drive. It records up to 16MP, decodes H.265+/H.264+, outputs 4K over HDMI with simultaneous VGA, works with Omada and ONVIF Profile G/S/T cameras, and offers remote access through Omada Central and the mobile app.

Omada NVR16-8P-2T overview

The Omada NVR16-8P-2T is TP-Link's Omada 8-port PoE+ network video recorder with a 2TB HDD, supporting up to 16 channels of IP video input. How many cameras it manages depends on resolution: 16 cameras at HD or 2K/5MP, 12 at 4K/8MP, 8 at 12MP or 6 at 16MP. Recording resolutions run from QCIF up to 16MP, video compression covers H.265+, H.265, H.264+ and H.264, and audio compression G.711A, G.711U and G.726. Decoding capability is listed as 10 channels at 2MP and 25 fps, or at 30 fps one channel at 16MP, two at 8MP, four at 5MP, five at 4MP or six at 3MP. Synchronous playback covers 16 channels, with TP-Link's condition that the number of simultaneously playable channels may be fewer than 16, or none, if the total resolution exceeds 20MP.

Eight RJ45 10/100 Mbps PoE ports, compliant with 802.3at and 802.3af, power and connect cameras directly, so each camera needs only one Ethernet cable for both power and data. TP-Link states that cable runs of up to 270 m are possible, with the condition that port speed in long-distance mode drops to 10 Mbps and that actual distance may vary with the PoE device's power consumption and the cable quality and type. A separate gigabit RJ45 port connects the NVR to your network. The recorder is powered by a 53.5 V DC / 2.43 A adapter, with maximum consumption of 4.17 W without a disk or 7.81 W with a disk.

Storage starts with the preinstalled 2TB hard drive in the single SATA bay, which accepts drives of up to 16 TB, and there is also an eSATA port. TP-Link describes 24/7 free smart recording: the built-in drive supports continuous recording, and Smart Storage records in SD while saving HD clips for events to use space more efficiently. Recording modes are manual, scheduled and event, with instant, regular and event playback regular and video clip backup, and a front USB 2.0 and rear USB 3.0 port. For local viewing, a 4K HDMI output (3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz) and a 1080p VGA output can run simultaneously with 1/4/6/8/9/16 or custom multi-view layouts, and RCA audio in and out are provided.

Smart perimeter protection uses Omada cameras' detection features: motion detection with vehicle, human and pet classification, video tampering, line-crossing and intrusion detection, with alarm linkage to a buzzer, pop-ups, push notifications, email, recording, light and audible alarms (the alarm functions require a camera). TP-Link says Omada Central lets you keep an eye on a residence or business with centralised management, real-time access and smart alerts, and the app gives remote access without monthly fees. ONVIF Profile G/S/T interoperability brings in compliant third-party cameras. The 260 x 230 x 45 mm industrial-grade housing operates from -10 to 55 degrees C. In the box: the NVR, power adapter, AC cord, HDMI cable, 1 m network cable, HDD screws, USB mouse, installation guide and surveillance sticker. ARC IP Networks supplies the Omada NVR16-8P-2T from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
