The TP-Link Omada B8S4-2T is a security camera system with four 8MP (3840x2160) bullet PoE cameras and a 16-channel Omada NVR with eight PoE+ ports and a preinstalled 2 TB HDD. The cameras have 4 mm F1.6 lenses, colour and IR night vision to 30 m, person, vehicle and pet detection and IP67 housings; the NVR outputs 4K over HDMI and expands to 16 TB.

Omada B8S4-2T overview

The Omada B8S4-2T combines four Omada 8MP bullet PoE cameras with an Omada 16-channel network video recorder, the NVR16-8P-2T, in one system. Each camera uses a 1/2.7-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor and records at up to 3840 x 2160 (8MP), at 25 fps on 50 Hz or 24 fps on 60 Hz; TP-Link notes the frame rate is limited to 20 fps if the image is rotated 90° or 270° or 120 dB WDR is turned on. The fixed 4 mm F1.6 lens covers 88° horizontally, 46° vertically and 105.4° diagonally. Two white LEDs and two 850 nm IR LEDs each reach 30 m, and minimum illumination is 0.005 lux, or 0 lux with IR or white light, with the illuminators set to auto, always on or always off.

The cameras detect motion, line crossing and intrusion with person, vehicle and pet classification, and also detect camera tampering. Each has red and blue warning lights, a built-in speaker, and a built-in microphone that picks up activity within a 5 m radius, as well as a microSD card slot. Recording modes are event-triggered, scheduled and 24/7, with 24/7 as the default. Video is compressed with H.265+, H.265, H.264+ or H.264. Each camera connects through one 10/100 Mbps PoE port (802.3af/at, 12 W maximum) or a 12 V DC input (10.5 W maximum), and the housing is rated IP67 weatherproof and IK10 vandal proof, operating from -30 °C to 60 °C. Each bullet camera measures 210 x 74 x 78 mm and weighs 0.6 kg. When people or vehicles are detected at night, the spotlights turn on for detailed colour video; otherwise the camera switches automatically to infrared night vision up to 30 m to avoid light disturbance, a range TP-Link bases on laboratory testing that is not guaranteed and varies with client limitations and environmental factors. Red and blue flashing lights plus sirens warn intruders before they act, and two-way talk through the app uses the built-in microphone and speaker, with custom voice alerts or preset voice messages (preset messages require the Omada Guard app). TP-Link says person, vehicle and pet detection needs no subscription fees. The housing is all-metal, and TP-Link states the products comply with NDAA standards.

The NVR powers and records the cameras over single cables. It has eight 10/100 Mbps PoE+ ports (802.3at/af) with a 115 W total PoE budget and up to 30 W per port, and TP-Link says one Ethernet cable can carry power and data up to 270 m; in that long-distance mode the port speed drops to 10 Mbps and the actual distance varies with the camera's power draw and the cable quality. The NVR accepts 16 IP video channels, and TP-Link lists up to 12 managed 4K/8MP cameras, so the four included cameras leave room to grow. A 2 TB HDD is preinstalled in its single SATA bay, which supports up to 16 TB, and an eSATA port adds external storage up to 16 TB. TP-Link says Smart Storage can record in SD while saving HD clips for events to make better use of the disk. The NVR's eight PoE ports connect eight wired cameras directly; TP-Link notes that to add eight more wired or wireless cameras, all devices must be on the same LAN. Once a camera is connected to the NVR over PoE, the NVR interface automatically displays its information for one-click monitoring, and the PoE connection's Long-Distance Mode also allows remote rebooting of a camera. Each camera also accepts a microSD card of up to 512 GB for onboard storage; the card is not included. Recording on the NVR is local, which TP-Link describes as having no monthly fees.

For viewing, the NVR has one HDMI output at up to 3840 x 2160/30 Hz and one VGA output at up to 1920 x 1080/60 Hz, usable simultaneously, with 1/4/6/8/9/16 and custom multi-view layouts. Synchronous playback covers 16 channels, although TP-Link notes fewer channels, or none, may play together if the total resolution exceeds 20MP. Remote access is through the app on Android or iOS, which TP-Link says needs no monthly fees, and through a web browser, with up to 40 users and 32 simultaneous streams. ONVIF Profile G/S/T lets the NVR work with Omada and ONVIF-compliant third-party cameras. The NVR has a gigabit uplink, front USB 2.0 and rear USB 3.0 ports, RCA audio in and out and operates from -10 °C to 55 °C. The Omada Guard app adds cameras by batch search, code scanning or manual device ID entry, and Omada Central offers centralised management, real-time access and smart alerts. NVR alarm linkage options in the datasheet include buzzer, pop-up alarm screen, push notification, email, recording linkage, light alarm and audible alarm, and anomaly alarms cover events such as no disk, hard drive exceptions, insufficient disk space, NVR offline, IP conflicts and PoE port overload. The NVR draws 7.81 W maximum with its disk installed, and its package includes the power adapter, AC power cord, HDMI cable, a 1 m network cable, a USB mouse, HDD screws and an installation guide. TP-Link notes the AC power cord specification varies by country or region. ARC IP Networks supplies the Omada B8S4-2T from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
