The TP-Link Omada 8MP Turret is a 4K (3840 x 2160) PoE security camera with a 4 mm F1.6 lens, full-colour and IR night vision up to 30 m, red and blue flashing lights with a siren, human, vehicle and pet detection, two-way audio, microSD storage up to 512 GB (card not included) and an all-metal IP67 and IK08 housing, managed through the Omada Guard app and Omada cloud.

Omada 8MP Turret overview

The Omada 8MP Turret is a 4K (8MP) Ultra HD PoE security camera in TP-Link's Omada range. A 1/2.7-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor delivers a maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160, which TP-Link says lets you see every detail, such as faces and licence plates. The fixed 4 mm F1.6 M12 lens gives an 88° horizontal, 46° vertical and 105.4° diagonal field of view, with DORI distances of 107 m detect, 44 m observe, 21 m recognise and 11 m identify. The main stream runs at 25 fps (50 Hz) at resolutions up to 3840 x 2160; TP-Link notes the frame rate is limited to 20 fps when the image is rotated 90° or 270°, or when 120 dB WDR is on.

For night viewing the camera has four 850 nm IR LEDs and four white LEDs, each with a 30 m range, and minimum illumination of 0.005 lux, or 0 lux with IR or white light. TP-Link describes full-colour day and night video, with built-in spotlights revealing true colours and accurate details 24/7, and a Smart IR and colour night vision switch; the illuminators can be set to auto, always on or always off. Image tools include 120 dB WDR, BLC, 3D DNR, SmartIR, up to four privacy masks and an SNR of at least 52 dB. The main stream supports H.265+, H.265, H.264+ and H.264 compression with CBR or VBR bit rate control from 256 Kbps to 8192 Kbps.

Smart detection identifies people, vehicles and pets, which TP-Link says reduces false notifications, and the camera also supports line crossing, intrusion and tampering detection. Alarm linkage options are memory card recording, FTP upload, push notifications, email alarms and active defence: red and blue flashing lights and a siren to deter intruders. Two-way audio through the built-in microphone and speaker lets you talk to visitors or scare off intruders via the app, and the microphone records within a 5 m radius. Recording can go to an onboard microSD card up to 512 GB (card not included) or to an NVR, and the camera supports ONVIF Profile G, S and T, RTSP and up to three main and ten sub-streams of simultaneous live view.

Management is through the camera's web UI, the Omada Guard app or the Omada Cloud-Based Controller (Guard), with cloud access and secure remote control via the app. Security features include password protection, HTTPS encryption, IP/MAC restriction, digest authentication and 802.1X. The camera connects through a 10/100M RJ45 port and is powered by 802.3af/at PoE (12.5 W maximum) or 12 V DC (12 W maximum). Its all-metal 112 x 112 x 88 mm, 0.5 kg housing is rated IP67 weatherproof and IK08 vandal proof, operates from -30 °C to 60 °C, and adjusts manually through 360° pan, 85° tilt and 360° rotation. ARC IP Networks supplies the Omada 8MP Turret from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
