The Cisco Meraki in depth

MS130 access switching

The Meraki MS130 series provides Layer 2 access switching for branch and campus deployments across 10 models. The MS130-48X pairs 40 Gigabit and 8 multigigabit 2.5G ports with four 10GbE SFP+ uplinks and a 740W PoE+ budget, giving 200 Gbps of switching capacity.

PoE+ for access points and phones

Every access port supports 802.3at PoE+ at up to 30W, drawing from a 740W switch budget, with a fixed internal power supply and fans.

Cloud managed and licensed

The switch is claimed and configured from the Meraki dashboard, checks in automatically and receives firmware upgrades from the cloud. Each MS130 needs a Meraki licence: LIC-MS130-48-xY (Enterprise) or LIC-MS130-48A-xY (Advanced).

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Cisco Meraki from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Yes. Every Meraki hardware device requires a cloud licence to be managed. The MS130-48X uses LIC-MS130-48-xY (Enterprise) or LIC-MS130-48A-xY (Advanced); Enterprise comes in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10-year terms and Advanced in 1, 3 or 5 years. Advanced adds Adaptive Policy only.

It supports 802.3at PoE+ up to 30W per port with a total switch budget of 740W.

The MS130 data sheet lists no stacking ports for this series. For dedicated 80 Gbps hardware stacking, Meraki's MS150 series offers two stack ports per switch.

Four 10GbE SFP+ ports supporting MA-SFP-1GB-SX, MA-SFP-1GB-LX10, MA-SFP-1GB-TX, MA-SFP-10GB-SR/LR/ER, MA-CBL-TA-1M/3M.

Cloud-managed Cisco switches include a limited lifetime hardware warranty with next-day advance hardware replacement. Meraki states product lifetime ends at the product's end-of-support date.
