The Mercusys MS118CP is a 16-port 10/100 Mbps + 2-port Gigabit rackmount switch with sixteen 802.3af/at PoE+ ports. Each PoE port supplies up to 30 W from a 190 W budget, two Gigabit RJ45 ports and two combo Gigabit SFP slots provide uplinks, and Extend Mode (250 m), Priority Mode (ports 1-8), Isolation Mode and PoE Auto Recovery are built in.

MS118CP overview

Sixteen camera ports, a 190 W PoE budget and a rackmount chassis: Mercusys aims the MS118CP squarely at small and medium business IP surveillance. The sixteen PoE+ ports are 10/100 Mbps RJ45, compliant with 802.3at/af powered devices and rated at up to 30 W each. Uplinks are two 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports and two combo Gigabit SFP slots supporting multimode and single-mode fibre (1000BASE-X). The 190 W is a laboratory-derived number and may differ in the field. The AU site lists V1.

The front-panel modes are tuned for surveillance. Extend Mode, which Mercusys says is specially designed for surveillance systems, gives up to 250 m of PoE power and data transmission; ports in that mode drop to 10 Mbps, and actual distance depends on cable quality. Priority Mode on ports 1-8 protects the quality of sensitive applications such as video monitoring. Isolation Mode covers ports 1-16 for one-click client traffic separation, and PoE Auto Recovery automatically reboots dropped or unresponsive powered devices on ports 1-16.

Mercusys says no configuration is needed and the plug-and-play design allows deployment without a technician. Mercusys lists 7.2 Gbps switching capacity and a 5.36 Mpps forwarding rate; the MAC table is 8K and jumbo frames go to 10 KB. It supports MAC address auto-learning and auto-aging and IEEE 802.3x flow control, with store-and-forward switching.

The MS118CP measures 440 x 180 x 44 mm (17.3 x 7.1 x 1.7 in), takes 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz through an internal supply, and is cooled by two fans. It has a physical security lock slot and operates from 0 to 50 °C. Certifications are CE, FCC and RoHS. Two rack brackets with fittings, a power cable and an installation guide are supplied.
