The Mercusys MS116GS is a 16-port Gigabit desktop/rackmount switch. Its sixteen 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports deliver 32 Gbps of non-blocking switching capacity, and a multi-mode switch selects default, Isolation Mode (ports 1-14) or loop prevention. It adds 802.1p/DSCP QoS and 802.3x flow control in a metal case with a built-in 100-240 VAC power supply.

MS116GS overview

The MS116GS is a sixteen-port Gigabit switch that works on a desk or in a rack. Every port is a 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, which Mercusys describes as ten times faster than regular 10/100 Mbps ports. It lists 4K UHD TVs, computers, printers, IP cameras and game consoles as compatible. Switching capacity is 32 Gbps, and Mercusys says the non-blocking design forwards and filters packets at the full capacity of the wired connection. The Australian page lists V1.

A front-panel multi-mode switch chooses between default operation, Isolation Mode and loop prevention. Isolation Mode divides traffic for ports 1-14 with one click to avoid snooping and tampering, and it isolates broadcast storms to improve LAN security and data transmission. Loop prevention automatically detects loops and blocks the corresponding port, and the power and port indicators flash slowly as an alert. Mercusys also lists 802.1p/DSCP QoS for traffic prioritisation.

Congestion is handled with IEEE 802.3x flow control in full duplex and backpressure in half duplex, and frames are store-and-forward with an 8K MAC address table. Supported standards are IEEE 802.3i, 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3x and 802.1p. Setup is plug and play: connect the devices with Ethernet cables and no configuration is required.

Mercusys builds a 24-port version of this switch, the MS124GS, with the same case, feature list and AC input and a 48 Gbps switching capacity. If the devices on the rack also need power, the MS120GP offers sixteen Gigabit PoE+ ports with a 192 W budget plus SFP uplinks; the MS116GS itself supplies no PoE.

Mercusys says the durable metal case allows efficient heat dissipation, excellent signal interference prevention, reliable equipment stability and a long network life, and it lists silent operation among the features. The switch measures 294 x 140 x 44 mm (11.6 x 5.5 x 1.7 in), sits on a desk or mounts in a rack, and runs from 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. LEDs show power, link/activity and 1000 Mbps. It operates from 0 to 40 °C and is CE and RoHS marked.
