The Mercusys MS108GS is an 8-port Gigabit desktop switch in a steel housing for desk or wall installation. Its eight 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports auto-negotiate and support auto MDI/MDIX, it needs no configuration, and it has a 4 Mbit buffer, 15 KB jumbo frames and Green Ethernet power saving.

MS108GS overview

The MS108GS is the eight-port Gigabit model in the Mercusys metal desktop range. Its front panel carries eight 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, each with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, and LEDs for all eight ports plus power. Mercusys describes Gigabit as ten times faster than regular 10/100 Mbps Ethernet and lists 4K Ultra HD TVs, computers, printers, IP cameras and game consoles as devices it suits, in homes, small offices and dormitories. The Australian site shows hardware version V1.

Mercusys highlights a steel housing with a desktop or wall-mounting design. It says the durable metal case gives efficient heat dissipation, excellent signal interference prevention, reliable equipment stability and a long network life, and it lists silent operation among the switch's features. Power saving comes from Green Ethernet technology. It is 6.2 x 3.9 x 1.0 in and takes 5 V / 0.6 A from an external adapter.

Installation is plug and play. Mercusys tells buyers to connect the switch to a TV or computer with an Ethernet cable and the wired network expands at once, without any configuration. Half and full duplex operation and MAC address learning are listed under reliable performance, and Mercusys states that every unit is extensively tested before shipment. The switch uses store-and-forward transfer, a 4 Mbit buffer and 15 KB jumbo frames, and supports IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3x, with data rates of 10/100/1000 Mbps half duplex and 20/200/2000 Mbps full duplex.

Within the eight-port Mercusys family, the MS108GS is the data-only Gigabit model. The MS108GP has the same port count but supplies PoE+ on ports 1-7 from a 65 W budget, uses a 53.5 V adapter and adds Extend Mode and Isolation Mode. The MS108GS-M2 lifts every port to 2.5 Gbps with 40 Gbps of switching capacity and a fanless 158 x 101 x 25.4 mm case. Where cameras or access points already have their own power, or where every device runs at Gigabit, the MS108GS covers the job with a small 5 V adapter and no setup. For a five-port version in the same steel style, Mercusys offers the MS105GS.

Inside the box are the MS108GS 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, a power adapter and a Quick Installation Guide.
