The Mercusys MS108GP is an 8-port Gigabit desktop switch with 7-port PoE+. All eight 10/100/1000 Mbps ports auto-negotiate, and ports 1-7 deliver up to 30 W each to 802.3af/at powered devices from a 65 W total PoE budget (based on laboratory testing). Extend Mode lengthens PoE reach to 250 m with the port speed dropping to 10 Mbps, and Isolation Mode separates traffic on ports 1-7. Mercusys positions it for surveillance in offices, dormitories and small businesses. Plug and play with a durable metal case and silent operation. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The Mercusys MS108GP is an 8-port gigabit desktop switch with seven 802.3af/at PoE+ ports and a 65 W PoE budget. Each PoE+ port delivers up to 30 W to IP cameras, access points, IP phones and similar devices, with one-click isolation mode, port prioritisation and plug-and-play setup in a metal case. Mercusys names surveillance for offices, dormitories and small businesses among its uses.

MS108GP overview

The MS108GP is Mercusys's 8-port gigabit desktop switch with 7-port PoE+. All eight ports are gigabit, and ports 1 to 7 supply Power over Ethernet compliant with 802.3af/at powered devices. Each PoE+ port can deliver a maximum of 30 W, and the switch has a total PoE power budget of 65 W. Mercusys says that budget enables a variety of uses, including surveillance for offices, dormitories and small businesses, and lists IP cameras, access points, IP phones, PCs and video recorders as compatible devices. Because one cable carries both data and power, Mercusys points out that you can do away with extra cables and power adapters, saving on infrastructure, and that devices can be placed in more locations, making deployment possible in more complex situations.

Two practical controls are built in. Isolation mode, turned on with one click, divides traffic for ports 1 to 7 to prevent snooping and tampering between connected devices and to isolate broadcast storms. Port prioritisation gives the data of specific ports priority so that delay-sensitive applications such as voice and video keep their quality. Mercusys also describes power management that improves power usage while protecting your devices from power surges. Everything else is plug and play: the ports auto-negotiate 10/100/1000 Mbps with automatic MDI/MDIX, and no additional configuration is needed.

When you plan PoE loads, the official power figures matter. The 65 W budget is shared across the seven PoE+ ports, so a mix of lower-draw devices fits more easily than several devices each drawing the full 30 W. Mercusys lists maximum power consumption of 5.07 W with no powered device connected and 77.33 W with 65 W of powered devices connected (220 V / 50 Hz), and maximum heat dissipation of 17.238 BTU/h and 262.922 BTU/h respectively. Power comes from an external adapter rated at 53.5 V / 1.31 A, which is included. Data rates are 10/100/1000 Mbps at half duplex and 20/200/2000 Mbps at full duplex, with IEEE 802.3x flow control, 9 KB jumbo frames and an 8K MAC address table.

The MS108GP is housed in a durable metal case that Mercusys says provides efficient heat dissipation, excellent prevention of signal interference, equipment stability and a long network life. It measures 171 x 98 x 27 mm. The official operating range is 0 to 40 °C at 10 to 90 % RH non-condensing, with storage from -40 to 70 °C and 5 to 95 % RH non-condensing. In the box you get the MS108GP switch, the power adapter and a quick installation guide, and documentation is published on the manufacturer's support site. ARC IP Networks supplies the MS108GP from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
