The Mercusys MS105GS is a 5-port gigabit desktop switch for home, small office and dormitory networks. It has five 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiating ports with Auto MDI/MDIX, up to 10 Gbps of switching bandwidth, a durable metal case that sits on a desk or mounts on a wall, and plug-and-play setup with no configuration.

MS105GS overview

The MS105GS is Mercusys's 5-port gigabit desktop switch, built to expand a wired network quickly. Each of its five RJ45 ports runs at 10/100/1000 Mbps with auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX, so each port negotiates its speed automatically. Mercusys points out that gigabit ports are ten times faster than regular 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports, and lists 4K Ultra HD TVs, computers, printers, IP cameras and game consoles among the devices it is fully compatible with. Mercusys describes it as perfect for use in home, small office and even dormitory environments.

Performance figures are straightforward. The switch uses store-and-forward transfer and supports half and full duplex with MAC address learning, and Mercusys rates it for up to 10 Gbps of stable switching bandwidth. Data rates are 10/100/1000 Mbps at half duplex and 20/200/2000 Mbps at full duplex. It has a 1 Mbit packet buffer and supports jumbo frames up to 15 KB, and it complies with IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u and IEEE 802.3x. The LEDs cover power and each of the five Ethernet ports (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5).

Mercusys tells buyers to forget about complicated installation. The MS105GS is plug and play: Mercusys says absolutely no configuration is required, and you simply connect the switch to your TV or computer via an Ethernet cable to immediately expand your wired network. Power comes from an external 5 V / 0.6 A adapter, which is included in the box.

The housing is a durable metal case. Mercusys says the metal construction gives efficient heat dissipation, excellent prevention of signal interference, reliable equipment stability and a long network life, and that every unit undergoes extensive testing prior to shipment to ensure reliable, uninterrupted connections. The switch measures 3.92 x 3.86 x 0.99 in and can be placed on a desk or mounted on a wall. In the box you get the MS105GS switch, a power adapter and a quick installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the MS105GS from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
