The Mercusys MS105GS-M2 is a 5-port 2.5G Multi-Gigabit desktop switch. All five RJ45 ports run at 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps, giving 25 Gbps of switching capacity, and Mercusys says existing Cat5e or better cabling can carry 2.5 Gbps. It adds a loop prevention button, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP snooping in a fanless metal case.

MS105GS-M2 overview

The MS105GS-M2 is the multi-gig model in the Mercusys five-port line-up. Each of its five RJ45 ports auto-negotiates at 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps, so Mercusys rates it at 2.5 times the network performance of a traditional Gigabit switch, with 25 Gbps of total switching capacity and an 18.6 Mpps packet forwarding rate. The standards listed include IEEE 802.3bz alongside 802.3u, 802.3ab, 802.3x and 802.1p. The Australian page lists V1 and V2; this page follows V2.

Mercusys calls its cabling approach Hassle-Free Cabling: the switch works with Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a and above, and its footnote clarifies that only Cat5e or better cables avoid replacement. The use cases it lists are 2.5G NAS and servers, 2.5G gaming computers, 2.5G Wi-Fi 7/6E/6 access points, 4K video, game consoles and network video recorders, in places such as cafes, small offices, workstations, LAN parties and dormitories.

A dedicated loop prevention button lets the switch detect loops and block the affected port; the power and port indicators then flash slowly as a warning. Mercusys also lists 802.3x flow control, 802.1p/DSCP QoS and IGMP snooping, and describes the switch as plug and play with auto-negotiation and auto MDI/MDIX, needing no configuration. Frames are store-and-forward, jumbo frames reach 12 KB and the MAC table holds 4K entries.

The case is metal and fanless, which Mercusys says reduces power use and noise, and it can be placed on a desk or wall mounted. It measures 99.8 x 98 x 25 mm and runs from a 9 VDC / 0.6 A adapter, with maximum power consumption of 5.67 W and 19.28 BTU/h heat dissipation. It operates from 0 to 40 °C and carries CE and RoHS marks. Package contents are the MS105GS-M2, a power adapter, an installation guide and rubber feet.
