The Mercusys MR60X is an AX1500 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router for everyday homes. It delivers 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, uses OFDMA, MU-MIMO and BSS Colour to serve several devices efficiently, and has four external high-gain antennas with beamforming, one gigabit WAN port and three gigabit LAN ports.

MR60X overview

The MR60X is Mercusys's AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 router, a step up from Wi-Fi 5 for everyday home networks. It combines 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz with 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, and Mercusys compares the 5 GHz figure with 867 Mbps on a 2x2 Wi-Fi 5 router. The higher rate comes from 1024-QAM modulation and a longer OFDM symbol, with channels up to 80 MHz. Mercusys stresses that maximum signal rates are physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 standard, and that real throughput and coverage depend on the building, interference, traffic, product location and the capabilities of each client.

For households with many devices, Mercusys lists OFDMA and MU-MIMO, which let the router transmit to and from several devices at the same time rather than one after another. BSS Colour tags frames from different access points so that neighbouring networks cause less interference, and Target Wake Time helps compatible phones and IoT devices conserve battery. Smart Connect combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one network name and moves devices to the band with the stronger signal and faster speed.

Coverage comes from four external antennas: two 5 dBi antennas for 5 GHz and two 4 dBi antennas for 2.4 GHz, working with beamforming to concentrate signal towards connected devices. Wired connections are full gigabit, with one WAN and three LAN ports. Mercusys notes that real network speed can be limited by Ethernet port rate, cabling and the internet provider. The MR60X also lists EasyMesh compatibility, so it can share one Wi-Fi name and password with other EasyMesh routers and extenders.

The software includes Router and AP modes, IPTV support (IGMP Proxy, IGMP Snooping, Bridge/Custom and Tag VLAN), IPv6, guest networks on both bands, AP isolation, airtime fairness, a wireless schedule and WPS. Security options are WPA, WPA2 and WPA3, an SPI firewall, access control and IP and MAC binding, while parental controls offer profiles, time control, pausing the internet and website filtering. QoS has time settings and priority control, and DDNS covers Mercusys, NO-IP and DynDNS.

Setup takes a few minutes with on-screen directions in the Mercusys app for iOS or Android, which also manages the router away from home; a web page and Mercusys ID cloud account are listed too. The MR60X measures 175.6 x 157.2 x 45 mm, can be placed on a desk or mounted on a wall, uses a 12 V / 1 A supply and has a system LED, a WPS button and a reset button. It operates from 0 to 40 °C.
