TP-Link MC220L Omada Gigabit SFP Media Converter

https://arcip.com.au/web/image/product.template/8120/image_1920?unique=d95db27

The TP-Link MC220L is an Omada Gigabit SFP Media Converter that converts between 1000BASE-SX/LX fibre and 10/100/1000Base-T copper. It has one 1000M SFP port, which takes a multi-mode or single-mode SFP module, and one 10/100/1000M RJ45 port with Auto MDI/MDIX; maximum fibre distance depends on the SFP module fitted. It complies with IEEE 802.3ab and 802.3z and auto-negotiates half/full duplex. It can stand alone on a desktop or be inserted into an MC1400 chassis, and TP-Link suggests it for links across multiple buildings, remote surveillance and automated factory equipment. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link MC220L is an Omada gigabit SFP media converter that converts between 1000BASE-SX/LX fibre and 10/100/1000BASE-T copper. It has one 1000M SFP port and one 10/100/1000M RJ45 port, works with a multi-mode or single-mode SFP module of your choice, and TP-Link positions it for links across multiple buildings, remote surveillance and automated factory equipment.

MC220L overview

The MC220L is a media converter designed to convert between 1000BASE-SX/LX fibre and 10/100/1000BASE-T copper media. Rather than a fixed fibre transceiver, it has a 1000M SFP port, so you fit the multi-mode or single-mode SFP module that suits the fibre you have. TP-Link says it easily extends the distance of an existing gigabit network via fibre optic when integrated with an SFP module. Because the optics come from the module, the wavelength and the maximum transmission distance both depend on the SFP module you insert. The second port is a 10/100/1000M RJ45 port with auto MDI/MDIX for the copper side.

The MC220L applies the IEEE 802.3ab 1000BASE-T and IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-SX/LX standards as part of its intended use with multi-mode or single-mode SFP modules, and its full standards list also includes IEEE 802.3i 10BASE-T, IEEE 802.3u 100BASE-T and IEEE 802.3x flow control. It supports auto-negotiation of half-duplex and full-duplex transfer modes. On the copper side, 1000BASE-T runs over UTP category 5 or 5e cable, or EIA/TIA-568 100 Ω STP, up to 100 m. TP-Link's media converter datasheet adds that its converters work at a full wire-speed forwarding rate and support full-duplex flow control (IEEE 802.3x).

TP-Link describes long-range point-to-point connections as easy to build with its gigabit fibre converters, which it calls ideal for network connections across multiple buildings, for remote surveillance and for automated factory equipment. LED indicators provide an easy way to monitor network activity: the MC220L has PWR and Link/Act LEDs. TP-Link's media converter datasheet also states that its converters fit conveniently into a TL-MC1400 chassis for easy storage.

The MC220L measures 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm and is powered by an external power adapter, which is included; maximum power consumption is 1.7 W. It is rated for operation from 0 °C to 50 °C with 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 °C to 70 °C, and carries FCC, CE and RoHS compliance. In the box are the MC220L, a power adapter and an installation guide; the SFP module is chosen and ordered separately to suit your fibre. ARC IP Networks supplies the MC220L from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
