The TP-Link MC112CS is an Omada 10/100 Mbps WDM media converter that converts 100BASE-FX fibre to 10/100BASE-TX copper and vice versa. It has one 100M SC/UPC fibre port and one 10/100M RJ45 port with Auto MDI/MDIX. Using WDM technology, it transmits and receives over a single strand of single-mode fibre at distances of up to 20 km, sending at 1310 nm and receiving at 1550 nm, so the far end must use the opposite wavelengths, such as the TP-Link MC111CS. It can be used as a standalone unit or installed in the TP-Link MC1400 chassis. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link MC112CS is an Omada 10/100 Mbps WDM media converter that converts 100BASE-FX single-mode fibre to 10/100BASE-TX copper and back. Using WDM it sends and receives over a single fibre with an SC connector, extends fibre distance up to 20 km, and transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm, pairing with a converter such as the TP-Link MC111CS.

MC112CS overview

The MC112CS is a media converter designed to convert 100BASE-FX fibre to 10/100BASE-TX copper media, or the other way around. It has one 100M SC/UPC fibre port and one 10/100M RJ45 port with auto MDI/MDIX. Its defining feature is WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) technology: the MC112CS needs only one fibre cable to both transmit and receive data which TP-Link says will save half the cabling cost. It is designed to the IEEE 802.3u 10/100BASE-TX and 100BASE-FX standards (with IEEE 802.3i also listed) and is built for single-mode fibre using the SC-type connector.

Because transmit and receive share one fibre, the two ends of a WDM link use opposite wavelengths. The MC112CS supports the longwave (LX) laser specification at a full wire-speed forwarding rate; it transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm. That means the device at the other end must transmit at 1550 nm and receive at 1310 nm. TP-Link names its own MC111CS media converter as one example of a device that works with the MC112CS.

TP-Link rates the MC112CS for fibre distances of up to 20 km. The fibre port supports half-duplex and full-duplex transfer modes. On the copper side, 10BASE-T runs over UTP category 3, 4 or 5 cable and 100BASE-TX over category 5 or 5e cable, each up to 100 m, or over EIA/TIA-568 100 Ω STP up to 100 m. LED indicators are PWR and Link/Act. The fibre port runs 100BASE-FX over single-mode fibre, while the 10/100M copper RJ45 port supports auto MDI/MDIX.

The converter measures 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm and is powered by an external power adapter, which is included. Its maximum power consumption is 1.18 W. It is rated for operation from 0 °C to 50 °C with 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity, and storage from -40 °C to 70 °C, and it carries FCC, CE and RoHS compliance. In the box are the MC112CS, a power adapter and an installation guide. ARC IP Networks supplies the MC112CS from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
