The TP-Link MC111CS is an Omada 10/100Mbps WDM media converter that converts 100BASE-FX fibre to 10/100BASE-TX copper and vice versa. Using WDM technology it transmits and receives over a single single-mode fibre with an SC connector, extending fibre distance up to 20 km. It transmits at 1550 nm and receives at 1310 nm, so the far end must use the opposite wavelengths; TP-Link names the MC112CS as one matching partner. It has a 10/100M RJ45 port with Auto MDI/MDIX and runs standalone or in the MC1400 chassis. Supplied by ARC IP Networks from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.

The TP-Link MC111CS is an Omada 10/100 Mbps WDM media converter that converts 100BASE-FX fibre to 10/100BASE-TX copper and back. Using WDM, it sends and receives over one single-mode fibre on an SC/UPC port (1550 nm Tx, 1310 nm Rx) and extends fibre distance up to 20 km; TP-Link names the MC112CS as a matching unit for the other end.

MC111CS overview

The MC111CS is a media converter designed to convert 100BASE-FX fibre to 10/100BASE-TX copper media or vice versa. It has one 100M SC/UPC fibre port and one 10/100M RJ45 port with auto MDI/MDIX. It is designed under the IEEE 802.3u 10/100BASE-TX and 100BASE-FX standards, and TP-Link lists IEEE 802.3i and IEEE 802.3u as its supported standards. The fibre port supports half- and full-duplex transfer modes, and the converter extends fibre distance up to 20 km.

The key feature is WDM technology. Instead of using a pair of fibres, the MC111CS takes only one fibre cable to transmit and receive data, which TP-Link says will save half the cabling cost. It is designed for single-mode fibre cable using the SC-type connector, and supports the longwave (LX) laser specification at a full wire-speed forwarding rate. The MC111CS transmits at 1550 nm and receives at 1310 nm. That means the device at the other end of the fibre must transmit at 1310 nm and receive at 1550 nm. TP-Link gives its MC112CS media converter as one example of a unit that works with the MC111CS, so the two are deployed as a pair.

On the copper side, the RJ45 port accepts UTP category 3, 4 or 5 cable or EIA/TIA-568 100 ohm STP for 10BASE-T, and UTP category 5 or 5e cable or EIA/TIA-568 100 ohm STP for 100BASE-T, each up to 100 m. Status is shown by PWR and Link/Act LEDs. The MC111CS measures 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm (3.7 x 2.9 x 1.1 in) and is powered by an external power adapter, which is included. Maximum power consumption is 1.23 W.

The converter is rated for an operating temperature of 0 to 50 °C (32 to 122 °F) at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, and for storage from -40 to 70 °C at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Safety and emission approvals are FCC, CE and RoHS. In the box are the MC111CS, a power adapter and an installation guide. When ordering, remember that a WDM link needs a complementary unit at each end: the MC111CS (1550 nm Tx / 1310 nm Rx) at one end and a unit that transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm, such as the MC112CS, at the other. ARC IP Networks supplies the MC111CS from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
