The TP-Link MC110CS is an Omada 10/100 Mbps single-mode media converter that converts 100BASE-FX fibre to 100BASE-TX copper and back. It uses SC/UPC connectors on single-mode fibre at 1310 nm for distances of up to 20 km, has a 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port with auto MDI/MDIX, and can run standalone or in an MC1400 chassis.

MC110CS overview

The MC110CS is TP-Link's Omada 10/100 Mbps single-mode media converter. TP-Link describes it as designed to convert 100BASE-FX fibre to 100BASE-TX copper media or vice versa, built to the IEEE 802.3u 10/100BASE-TX and 100BASE-FX standards for use with single-mode fibre cable and SC-type connectors. It supports the longwave (LX) laser specification at a full wire-speed forwarding rate, working at 1310 nm on both transmit and receive. TP-Link states that it transmits over single-mode fibre at extended distances of up to 20 km, and the datasheet lists 9/125 µm single-mode fibre for that 20 km reach. Standards listed on the product page are IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u and IEEE 802.3x.

The interfaces are two 100M SC/UPC fibre ports and one 10/100M RJ45 port. The RJ45 port supports auto MDI/MDIX, and the converter auto-negotiates half-duplex or full-duplex transfer mode. For flow control it supports full-duplex flow control to IEEE 802.3x and half-duplex flow control by backpressure. On the copper side, 10BASE-T runs over UTP category 3, 4 or 5 cable or EIA/TIA-568 100 Ω STP up to 100 m, and 100BASE-TX over UTP category 5 or 5e or 100 Ω STP up to 100 m. LED indicators show power and link/activity, which the datasheet notes provide an easy way to monitor network activity.

Deployment is flexible. TP-Link says the MC110CS can be used as a standalone device with no chassis required, or fitted into the MC1400 chassis, which the datasheet describes as a convenient way to store Omada media converters. As a standalone unit it is powered by an external power supply, and a power adapter is included in the box; the datasheet lists a 9 V / 0.6 A power supply for this converter family. The converter measures 94.5 x 73.0 x 27.0 mm, and safety and emission approvals are listed as FCC, CE and RoHS.

The MC110CS is rated for operating temperatures of 0 to 50 degrees C and storage temperatures from -40 to 70 degrees C, with 10 to 90% non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90% non-condensing storage humidity. The box contains the MC110CS, a power adapter and an installation guide. Because it converts at the 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet rate, the MC110CS suits links where 100BASE-FX single-mode fibre must connect to 10/100 Mbps copper equipment; the datasheet notes that the wider Omada media converter range also covers gigabit conversion between 1000BASE-T and 1000BASE-SX/LX. ARC IP Networks supplies the MC110CS from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
