The Mercusys MB260-4G combines a 4G+ Cat 6 modem with AX1500 Wi-Fi 6. It is rated at up to 300 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload from a nano SIM, shares that over 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, and adds a gigabit LAN/WAN port and a gigabit LAN port in a compact upright case.

MB260-4G overview

The MB260-4G is the Wi-Fi 6 member of Mercusys's 4G router range. Its cellular side is 4G+ Cat 6, rated at up to 300 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload, and its wireless side is AX1500 dual band Wi-Fi 6 using IEEE 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n. Mercusys explains that the maximum 4G download depends on local coverage, data plan, real-time network capacity, client limitations and environment. The compatible bands on the AU page are FDD-LTE B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28, TDD-LTE B38/B40 and HSPA+/UMTS B1/B5/B8, labelled as the EU set.

Wi-Fi signal rates are 1201 Mbps at 5 GHz and 300 Mbps at 2.4 GHz. Mercusys attributes the speed to 1024-QAM and a longer OFDM symbol, and adds BSS Colour to reduce interference from neighbouring networks and Target Wake Time to lower power use on phones and IoT devices. These Wi-Fi 6 features only work with clients that support them, actual Target Wake Time savings vary, and Mercusys states the router may not support every mandatory feature in Draft 3.0 of the 802.11ax specification. The quoted rates are physical rates from IEEE 802.11, not guaranteed throughput. Transmit power is listed as under 20 dBm EIRP on 2.4 GHz and under 23 dBm EIRP on 5 GHz.

Mercusys says the MB260-4G can share its connection with up to 64 devices, and that internal high-gain antennas strengthen the Wi-Fi signal and extend its range. Security is WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3-SAE; WPA3 requires clients that also support it. Mercusys also marks the router as EasyMesh-compatible, with the usual conditions: connections with other vendors' devices may fail because of firmware conflicts, the function is still in development on some models, and the product is not Wi-Fi EasyMesh certified.

The two Ethernet ports are both gigabit, one LAN/WAN and one LAN. When set to Wireless Router mode, the LAN/WAN port connects to a cable, fibre or DSL modem or an Ethernet outlet, so the router can use a fixed service when 4G is not available; the steps are in the User Guide. A flow switch, roaming switch and data limit with SMS alerts help keep mobile usage under control, and the Mercusys app on Android or iOS handles setup and day-to-day management. The case measures 95 x 61.05 x 165.97 mm, has a combined WPS/Reset button, and operates from 0 to 40 °C.
