The Mercusys MB135-4G is an AC1200 dual band 4G LTE router in a flat desktop case with four external antennas, two of them detachable LTE antennas that can be swapped for higher-gain models. It shares a Cat 4 connection of up to 150 Mbps down over 867 Mbps 5 GHz and 300 Mbps 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and adds one LAN/WAN port plus three LAN ports.

MB135-4G overview

The MB135-4G is the external-antenna version of Mercusys's AC1200 4G router. Its flat desktop chassis carries four external antennas: two Wi-Fi antennas and two detachable 4G LTE antennas. Mercusys says the LTE antennas can be replaced with high-power alternatives to improve 4G signal strength and coverage, which is useful where the router sits at the edge of a mobile cell.

Mobile performance is LTE Cat 4, up to 150 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload. Mercusys notes that maximum 4G speed depends on local coverage, your data plan, real-time network capacity, client limitations and environmental factors. The router is compatible with FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE, and the AU page lists the EU band set: FDD-LTE B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28, TDD-LTE B38/B40 and HSPA+/UMTS B1/B5/B8. The SIM is sold separately and must be activated without a PIN lock; a locked card can be unlocked through the Mercusys app, and its state checked in the web interface under Advanced > Network > PIN Management.

Wi-Fi is AC1200 dual band using IEEE 802.11ac/a/b/g/n with channels up to 80 MHz: 867 Mbps on 5 GHz for HD streaming and gaming, and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz for browsing, email and social media. These are maximum physical signal rates from the IEEE 802.11 specification, so delivered throughput, coverage and device count vary with building materials, obstacles, traffic and client location. Mercusys allows up to 64 wireless clients and recommends 32. There are guest networks on both bands, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK security, Smart Connect, WPS, a wireless schedule and client statistics.

The MB135-4G has more wired ports than the MB130-4G: one 10/100 Mbps LAN/WAN port and three 10/100 Mbps LAN ports. In Wireless Router mode the LAN/WAN port connects to a cable, fibre or DSL modem, with Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP supported; Mercusys reminds buyers that Ethernet port rate, cabling and the provider can all limit real speeds. In 3G/4G Router mode you can select 4G Preferred, 4G Only or 3G Only and manage APN profiles, data roaming, network search and ISP file upgrades.

The Mercusys app (Android, iOS) or web interface handles setup, with cloud firmware upgrades and remote management. Other functions are monthly data statistics and a data limit, an SMS message centre that can alert you near the limit, parental controls with time control and website filtering, QoS, DynDNS and NO-IP, NAT forwarding, IPv6, an IPv4 SPI firewall, IPv6 firewall, DoS protection, service filtering, access control and IP and MAC binding, and TR-069, CWMP and SNMP settings. The case measures 219 x 140 x 32 mm, uses a 12 V / 1 A supply, and has a WPS/Wi-Fi button, a reset button and power, internet, LAN and three signal LEDs. Operating temperature is 0 to 40 °C.
