The TP-Link M7005 is a pocket-sized 4G LTE Mobile Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4 GHz at up to 287 Mbps. TP-Link rates LTE at up to 150 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload, connects up to 10 devices, quotes up to 12 hours of use from its 2400 mAh battery (actual time varies), and puts the nano SIM in a side slot so the back cover stays on.

M7005 overview

The M7005 is a pocket-sized 4G LTE Mobile Wi-Fi from TP-Link, which says it is compact enough to slip into most bags and suits adventures, business trips and daily commutes. One point TP-Link highlights is SIM access: rather than removing the back cover, you push the nano SIM into a side-mounted slot. The device needs an activated SIM card without a PIN lock, and TP-Link refers owners of a locked SIM to the quick installation guide for unlocking steps.

On 4G LTE, TP-Link lists download speeds of up to 150 Mbps and uploads of up to 50 Mbps, and notes that actual mobile broadband speeds vary with network configuration, signal strength and subscription terms. The LTE bands are FDD-LTE B1, B3, B5, B7, B8, B20 and B28 (2100, 1800, 850, 2600, 900, 800 and 750 MHz) and TDD-LTE B38, B40 and B41 (2600, 2300 and 2500 MHz). Where 4G is unavailable it can use 3G HSPA+, HSPA and WCDMA on B1, B5 and B8 (2100, 850 and 900 MHz). Compare these bands with your provider's network before choosing a plan.

Wi-Fi is IEEE 802.11b/g/n/ax on 2.4 GHz, so the M7005 is a Wi-Fi 6 device, with signal rates of up to 287 Mbps and transmit power under 20 dBm. TP-Link says it connects up to 10 devices simultaneously. Its footnote explains that maximum wireless signal rates are physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 standard and that real throughput and the number of connected devices depend on network conditions, client limits and the environment. Security covers WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3-SAE, wireless MAC filtering and SSID broadcast control, with a DHCP server and client list.

TP-Link's battery claim is up to 12 hours of use on a single charge from a 2400 mAh high-capacity battery, with the condition that actual battery time varies with the user environment. Charging and external power use the USB-C port at 5 V / 1 A. The M7005 weighs about 118 g and measures 114 x 70 x 23.85 mm, with internal antennas, power and reset buttons, and Wi-Fi, Internet and Power LEDs rather than a screen.

The tpMiFi app lets you open and manage the M7005 from a connected iOS or Android device, set data limits, choose which devices may join the Wi-Fi and send messages. A web interface over HTTP/HTTPS is also available, and DNS and DHCP/DHCPv6 services run by default. RNDIS is supported on Windows XP, 7, 8, 10 and 11. The operating range is 0 to 35 °C, certifications are CE and RoHS, and the box holds the M7005, a 0.4 m USB-C cable and a quick installation guide.
